I read the pervious post which shows how xp performed on F8VA and drivers
from that post, but the real problem comes when I try to install XP.
Just after booting from the dvd drive and geting into the installing mode and
the program loading the files, when it was about start windows, the screen
turns into stop error screen and the following msg shows up: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If thies is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your com balabalabala.........
can anybody help me on it? I tried to pull out the memory sticks, and still
doesn't work. Oh, by the way I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the disc because in the beginning
I thougt there was something wrong with the disc so I order a replacement disc, but it turns out the same results today.

I think that your XP installation CD is of the old version. It needs XP sp2 CD (or newer version) to install XP on ASUS notebook computers.
Another alternative is to use your existing XP CD and the program nLite to make an XP sp3 CD. And at the same time, you can integrate the SATA driver, Service Pack 3 components, and Internet Explorer 7 into the XP sp3 CD.
Here is the way to do it.
Get the Service Pack 3 components, WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe from here, and put the file under C:\
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en
Download the Internet Explorer 7, IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe from here, and put it under C:\
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b&DisplayLang=en
And download the SATA driver 32-bit Floppy Configuration Utility for Intel® Matrix Storage Manager, f6flpy32.zip from the following site. Unzip it in a new folder and name it SATA driver. Put this folder under C:\
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...91&DwnldId=16013&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng
Download and install the program nLite.
http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
Put your original XP CD into the DVD drive. Run the program nLite and click Next. In the page of Locating the Windows installation, click Browse >> My Computer >> DVD drive, a window pops up.
Select where to save the CD installation files for modification.
Choose or create an empty folder.
Click OK, a window pops up. Click C: >> Make a new folder >> type New XPCD >> OK
The nLite starts to copy all the files of the original XP CD into the folder C:\New XPCD.
Click Next. In the page of Presets, click Next. In the page of Task Selection, select Integrate [Service Pack], [Hot fixes, Add-ons, and Update Packs], [Drivers], and [Create Bootable ISO], click Next.
In the page of [Service Pack], click Select >> WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe >> Open. The nLite starts to integrate the service pack 3 components into the folder of New XPCD. Click Next.
In the page of [Hot fixes, Add-ons, and Update Packs], click Insert >> C: >> IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe >> Next.
In the page of Drivers, click Insert >> Single Driver, a window pops up, select C:\SATA driver, 2 selections show up, select iaAHCI, click Open, then pops up another window, in which there are more than 10 selections, select Intel® ICH8M-E/M and ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, click OK >> Next, a window pops up with a question Do you want to start the process?, click Yes. Take out the original XP CD and put a blank CD into the DVD drive.
Click Next. In the page of Bootable ISO, select Direct Burn for Mode, type New XPCD for Label, select minimum 4 x (705KB/s) for Burn Speed, then click Burn. The nLite starts burning the New XPCD. After completion, you have a new XP installation CD now.
You can use it to install XP smoothly. If you need the XP drivers and utilities for F8Va, just make a request.
Good luck!! -
Yep, this error is because the XP CD is missing the SATA drivers.
The easiest solution is to just put the HDD in Compatible mode from the BIOS, at some (minor) performance penalty.
The second easiest solution is to slipstream just the SATA drivers.
If you wish a full XP SP3 CD + IE7, take the steps in the message above. But if you just install Windows rarely, I think it's too much hassle, you can just download the updates via Automatic Updates once you complete the install.
Sorry you had to order a replacement CD, you should've asked first.
This obscurity about SATA incompatibility of WinXP and the refusal to make it easy for people to install WinXP on SATA machines, I think it's just another ploy to get Vista a wider market share. I don't think it's working though, which is proven among others by the fact that you went to all this trouble. -
thank you two so much

Azurewave BT-253 Bluetooth driver – You must use the Vista driver CD (accompanied with your F8Va computer when you bought it). This CD still contains XP support package. Run E:Software\BLUETOOTH\AZUREWAVE_BT-253\VISTA32_64\WIN32\BRCM\DPINST.EXE if your DVD drive is E:
All the other drivers and utilities are available in the following ASUS support site.
