Hello! I am new to this forum but I've been lurking here for a while. I am a desktop builder; I've been building them for more than a decade for myself, my relatives and my friends. And I build them for free (excluding hardware cost).
So, I expect to get free advice from ASUS addicts.

I am looking for a laptop (presumably ASUS) I have found one, in style, F8P-X2B on Newegg.com that I would like to like. My problem is that I can not find any references for this particular model even on ASUStech. Can anyone comment on what they think about this newly evolved creature from ASUS zoo?
    Thank you very much.

The Radeon HD 2600 is weaker than a Geforce 8600M GT, which is what the F8SV has...

Specwise, its okay, but thatll depend on what your doing. Personally, I dont like the specs on the 2400HD, also, your budget is another factor. To be completely honest, if youre looking for a laptop, you should make a thread in the appropriate place and fill out a FAQ so we can help you better.

    Hahutzy, I agree...

From other hand Radeon HD 2600 is not as hot (heat emission) as Geforce 8600M GT.
    And F8P is leather wrapped...

I have to find something for a college student and I want to believe he does not have time enough for hard gaming.

(after all in less than year all this stuff becomes obsolete)

    SSZERO,
It is easy to figure out how much I'm willing to spend - USD 1200 max and I'm looking for a ASUS and I want dedicated GPU (256MB is good enough)

Vram is terrible measure of graphics performance. There are other things like clock speeds, bus width/type, and pipelines. Gpus with 256mb vram have been out since 2004.

Anyway, if it has to be an Asus under 1200, then i guess thats your best bet.

    Thank you, SSZERO
I agree with you. GPU performance is not everything.
I've found very attractive 5 (FIVE) USB's on F8P and their location is very convenient too...

I just think that limiting yourself to one brand isnt necessary. While Asus laptops are good over (i have the G1S) there are other brands of laptops that are good as well. And like i said before, the 2400HD isnt exactly the greatest.

    Thank you for reply, SSZERO
To be honest, I think I have ‘brand loyalty syndrome’ Six years ago I’ve bought ABS computer notebook that actually was barebone ASUS. This book worked hard for a long 4 years and past away by natural causes

I’d gladly appreciate your advise on other brands with

    same price bracket (USD1000-1200)
    dedicated GPU 256MB min
HDD size does not matter if it bigger than 80Gbt
I have no prejudice against AMD products

    Hope to read your response

Well, usually around your budget i suggest the Vostro 1500 as it is a nice bang for buck latptop. And while that is still an option, i will look at other notebooks that i feel you may find acceptable based on the info youve provided me, however, i have class very soon so this will have to wait til later today. But until then, look at this; it meets your reqs

    Lenovo T or R series
    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...-category-id=8FA114A7D9FF4F38AE8E19B36EC665A7

The Asus F8sn is a bit better than that too.
    http://www.lynnbay.com/index.cfm?mainpage=productdetail&model=F8SN

Sony and Toshiba (I dont know much about them except that they seem to be a bit more rare)

    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4223705

the hp dv6700t/z or the 2700 or any on this page for that matter, just those two tend to be more popular
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...landing=notebooks&a1=Display+diagonal&v1=15.4

The Sager Np2092 is also another choice considering the price cut they just applied. The are two laptops aren't as good but they can be configured nicely as well i presume
    http://www.sagernotebook.com/category_browse.php?cid=&lcdsize=15

    Heres a cheaper NP2092
    http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np2092-custom-laptop-built-compal-jfl92-p-2347.html

Heres another Asus that can be pretty nice under 1200 (cash price) after the addition of a T8100, everything else seems to meet your needs.
    http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-m51sna1-customizable-laptop-p-2371.html?wconfigure=yes

Those are just a few i could find; im sure there are many others. Whats more is, i think those are all 15.4. (except for the f8sn)

    Or Gosh!!!
So many choices, so many options...
    I feel like a Buridan's ass...
I need a break to make my search

BTW, I've looked at Sager and because I couldn't stop configure, I went off my budget.

SSZERO, thank you very much for your time and good intentions

oldman, from my personal experiance, working in the oilpatch i run across alot of laptops. I must say this.

Acers i would stay away from , every one ive worked with minus me has owned one of these, and every single one has had catistrophic failures.

We use dells as our work computers they feel flimsy to me, but have withstood some serious abuse, minus the keyboards.

Me and a few people have had hp's / compaqs and withstood the test of time.

then we got the macbook (insert bad names) remind me of the prissy people basically says eff you im better then you i dont crash or have problems ( again personal opinion )

then my asus g2 which never fails to turn heads and solidly build product.and another guy has a msi but they both are too new to us to tell weather or not they will stand the test of time.

    Hope maybe this helps some

    i bought f8p-x2b from newegg.com

Overall looks stunning with the leather wrapped up.portable. fast wireless connection. Loading pretty fast i.e. window startup. but 2 things concern me.

    1. battery life (max out 3hrs but mainly 2.5)
    2. mid good video card hd2400

If you like stylish HOT looking laptop NOT heavily on games. i recommend this one.

Congrats on your new laptop. Head over to the owner's lounge (link in the Info Booth) to discuss it and see other users' experiences.
