I've had a z96j for 3-4 months now and love it...except for the Toshiba BT stack. I'd like to change to the MS stack or the Widcomm stack. I've heard the Widcomm is better, but I'll try either one if I can get some help. I've searched the forum and followed a few directions that are in posts, but I can't get anything to work that I've seen so far. I would really appreciate it if someone could post some clear instructions on how to do this.
    Thanks,
    Shannon

Are you having a particular issue with Bluetooth?

If not I would leave well alone, as Microsoft's BT driver can be fairly selective in its support of 3rd party BT. And speaking from experience! Widcomm's - whilst having a more relaxed approach, can give licensing errors any time after the first year is up ...even with the supplied disk.

I would like to use my Treo as a modem and link it via Bluetooth with my laptop. I have a bluetooth dongle on my desktop computer and it uses broadcom/widcomm stack and works just fine so I am guessing the reason it wont' work with my laptop is the Toshiba stack ... that is why I was hoping to change. I don't want it to cause me other problems though ....

    Thanks,
    Shannon

    Hi Shannon,

I think your best bet is to go to this site:

    http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=237

There are a number of posts there that detail how to configure your stack (or other stacks) properly. One thing to note: some of the latest Broadcom stacks do not support the CSR bluetooth chipsets used inside a lot of the Asus laptops - I'm not sure that yours has one though. It may be better to simply upgrade to the latest Toshiba stack available (there may be a link or two from that forum).

Unfortunately, that's the case with my W3J which is why I'm stuck with the Toshiba stack, not that it inhibits me at all.

Great Link - it led me to Toshiba's BT stack download page! Thanks.

any luck with it? I'm thinking of changing my BT stack to broadcomm to see if it improves my range.

I haven't had any luck changing the stack ... other than updating to the latest Toshiba stack. That didn't seem to help me out though. For some reason the Treo doesn't like the Toshiba stack b/c it works fine with my desktop computer which has a widcomm stack ...
    Thanks for the replies,
    Shannon

If you want to change to a stack other than Toshiba (eg. Widcomm), the instructions are quite specific and it's not so easy as just running the install file.

It is possible to change to Widcomm if you have a CSR dongle - but you are limited to using version 5.1.0.1100 as the latest one - still pretty good.

Unfortunately I don't have a CSR dongle ... I am using whatever card came internal on the machine. I assumed it was a Toshiba card since it is a Toshiba stack, but not 100% sure...

Oh, even if the Toshiba stack is being used, that doesn't indicate the manufacturer of the dongle. I only meant to say that the latest version that CSR chipsets can use is 5.1.0.1100 - however, chances are, if you DON'T have a CSR chipset you can install the latest version.
