I just got an Asus v6va, and I can't figure out why my wireless doesn't work well when on battery. The signal strength doesn't change going from a/c to battery, but on battery I only get transfer of data randomly and rarely. Is there some power saving feature that lowers the power to the wireless or something? I've never had any problems with any other laptops on my network. Thanks

You shouldn't have a problem, but there are option in the pro/set software to change power to the card.

I find my wireless connection pretty bad as well, even right besides the router. Its like this for both AC and Battery...
I'm changing my wireless card in a week, I hope. I also expect improvements -
Be careful what card you buy. I just bought an ABG atheros card for my W2V and i tried to put it in except the antenna cables in the minipci slot wont reach them on the atheros card they are to short. So just be careful what card you want to buy. Now im stuck with an atheros card i cant use just cause the cable isnt long enough. i really wanted to try it out to cause the intel one is picky on the routers.

Why is the Intel wireless card so popular anyhow? It's never seemed all that good to me.

It's a default with the Pentium, so for a Centrino, you need PM+Intel wireless.
SRD: what card? willing to sell it? -

Well by default the power on them is turned way down.....
Asus actually made the older 2200 intel card - and Asus' own card - which used the same chipset and everything had twice the range... but used twice the power......
That's the obvious reason for why one is the way it is.... they figure out what the longest distance a normal person would typically use wifi - and they work out out the amplification based on that and try to find a good median between that and battery life....
Intel's cards really are pretty decent and more than what 99% of people really need...... of course you need that for the almighty centrino sticker to be on your computer --- but the real reason behind that is that it's proven to work and has been tested and isn't going to fail......... that's why Intel is adiment about the use of their card. -
Yup, that worked. I raised the power of the wireless adapter and now have no more problems. Thanks for the help.

Oh yeah, I had the same problem. Try going into your adapter properties and configure adapter. Then for the power saving settings, de-check the default and set it to the highest or maximum transmit power even in battery mode.
This is for Intel cards.
Coriolis...you now have a V6Va? No more Z70Va?
My new ABG Atheros AR5006XS is fantastic~!!!!! I'm in a coffee shop right now using someone's wireless, which wasn't detected before with my intel card.
Now I have an Intel 2200B/G MiniPc card as a backup I guess, or I could sell it for 5 bucks and get some McDicks, I'm getting hungry.
Cheers,
Mike
