I have an Asus F3Jm, with all the backup CDs, and was wondering if it's at all possible to do a clean install of ONLY Windows XP Pro (i.e. without all the bloatware). I don't want to buy a new version or anything. I read something about this being possible on Thinkpads, but the procedure is complicated and I don't want to spend hours on this at the risk of something going wrong.

If this isn't possible/feasible, can I use an OEM XP Pro CD from a friend together with the key on the sticker on my laptop to do a clean install? Help much appreciated! Thanks.

This actually is the only feasible way of accomplishing the task. Install with a generic Microsoft Windows XP Professional OEM disk, then install all of your drivers separately.

I have done a clean install on another Asus laptop using its recovery CD to bypass the bloatware. It all depends what different options you are given when you run the recovery CD. However, those who say it is not possible, I assume know about your specific model.
