    Hey everyone, a hypothetical question:

Could I still use my laptop if I completely removed the GPU? Would the display work? I have the G51J.

I don't want to do this, but I am curious if it is possible.

    Thanks.

    short answer, maybe :D

depends on the bios of that system. Some computers hit a fault state if the gpu is not detected as working and will not boot.

other machines will boot and you just wont have a screen.

If your machine is in the second class then yes you can use it with no gpu.

If you purposely set this up ahead of time then you could have done numerous things to the computer to make it usable without the gpu. Like remote desktop, usb vga adapters, stuff like that.

Wrong answer .. he thinks he can remove the gpu and board itself and still be able to use it :p and not just get the notebook in to some working condition.

    "Would the display work?"

So the answer is : No

He is asking if he can remove the gpu and still have a working laptop I think, the answer is yes if the conditions are right. The display wont work though, but the computer may be usable and you can get a working display via adapters or other means.

The laptop's display would be inoperative as there is no secondary graphics chip to fall back on in the G51. However the computer itself as Vicious suggests could easily be used using a external GPU and separate screen.

And there is no way for me to swap in some sort of GPU... nothing fancy.. just something that will allow me to use the laptop?
