Hi guys , made a few posts here trying to figure out what I want to do about a new laptop. Seeing as the 480m is not in the Asus roadmap, I guess I will have to wait for the new ATI season of graphics card before I breakdown and buy a new laptop. However I was wondering if it might be possible to replace the 260m in this G72GX-RBB05 with a 460m based videocard from an G73 perhaps?
Both would be asus branded video cards. Your comments are apreciated.

    Thanks,
    Quaddragon

The majority of notebook today have the graphics , even dedicated one are soldered to the motherboard and are not upgradable, the exceptions to this are the dual graphic card notebook that have sli and dual fans, these are usually upgradable.

EDIT: I just had an look at the G72GX-RBB05 , it`s an 2005 notebook , older notebook use to use mxm cards and could be upgraded, though it`s not easy to do.

Most ASUS gaming laptops have a removable reverse MXM based GPU (your G72 does). If you could get your hands on a ASUS proprietary reverse MXM 460m and the MXM spec was compatible and the size, heatsink and cooling was sufficient it might be possible to do what you ask. However, it's probably best to just wait for the BB version of the G73JW and sell your G72 for what it would cost to do this upgrade.

    Cheers,

Once you find out what version of mxm your notebook has if it has got mxm , you can look at the site below for cards or search ebay.

I can tell you its NOT possible.
The GTX 460M is MUCH bigger so it wont even fit on the motherboard, the heatsink also wont fit - it will be too small and the position of the chips and coils is not the same and theres almost certainly no Bios support for the GTX 460m in any Asus notebook that doesnt come with it.
Forget upgrading mobile graphics in Asus notebooks, they never make their laptops with such things in mind.
