So let's say I buy the S96J barebone with parts to make it a real laptop.

First off, am I missing anything needed/strongly reccomended from this list?
    1 x 1024M / SODIMM ( DDR2 / 667, Corsair, OCZ )
    1 x Core Duo Processor T2300 ( 1.66GHz ) 667 2MB (Intel)
1 x DVD/CDRW Combo Drive for VBI models
    1 x Hard Drive 80GB Internal 2.5-inch SATA 5400RPM 8MB, Seagate
    1 x Intel Wireless card WM3945AGM1GEN
1 x Windows XP Professional (OEM)
    1 x ASUS Notebook S96J Barebone / X1600 256M...

My other question, is what do I do if I have a hardware problem? I'm a bit concerned with buying everything individually because of that. I am fairly technical and can troubleshoot a lot, but am I going to end up dealing with the manufacturers of each individual part? Hopefully I won't have any problems, and I'm thinking the quality of this thing will be much better than my previous Dell D600 which had it's system board replaced on account of not powering up at all 1.5 years in..

If you won't be using it on a network, then I'd save some money and get XP Home. And, as always, I'd recommend putting some of that towards a 100GB drive over the 80GB because performance, not just capacity, likely will increase.

You need to check with Milestone on the warranty and see how they handle it.

And, ya, most of us who bought this are hoping that Asus quality will prove itself through the longevity of our notebooks. There's nothing within $500 of these VBI notebooks that offers the same processing and graphics power in a 15" screen.

Well actually the HEL80 is maybe only 100 dollars or so more and seem to be of better quality.

I would say they are about the same quality-wise, both are great laptops.

Just a heads up, if anyone has a question for a specific dealer, please PM instead. However, any other questions are very welcomed!

    Thanks :)

Ok, sorry about that. I was also hoping to get "Yeah, I had a little problem but they were great about dealing with it", or the opposite, from people who have dealt with them :)

I am also confused as to whether Milestone builds it for you or sends you the parts. It seems like maybe you can choose whichever for the same price?

Are there any other Canadian resellers I should look into?

Also, there is resellerratings.com, and I believe there's at least one other major rating site out there that I can't think of. I tried doing a search but only found resellerratings.com.

I bought both my laptops(Z70va, which was a barebone, and the V6va, a prebuilt from ASUS) from them(when they were CanadaSys), and they build it and test it for you, unless you ask them not to.

They will just send you unopened parts if you desire it to be so.
