I just bought the U80 backlit keyboard, and going to install it on my U36JC. I might try to make it work with F3 and F4 buttons so it can toggle on/off. This might be challenging.

If you can get them to work, be sure to show us how!

Definitely. I believe those two extra pins (i) for the keyboard ---> IiiI (see what I did there?) relates to the toggle. The F3 and F4 buttons look like keyboard toggle icons. I'm not sure.

Did your keyboard come in? It would be cool if you could get the F3 & F4 buttons to work, but it is going to be really hard. It might be a hardware limitation in getting the keys to work.

I'm still waiting--it will probably be next week or so because it is shipped from China to USA. Yeah, it might be some hardware limitations, but I will check into it anyways. Hope for the best!

    Hi everyone,

My U36SD had a little accident and I'm need of a screen replacement. Any word on a compatible 1600 X 900 (either from the UX31 or the LG panel)?

Also, a few other questions comments, in case anyone is still checking this thread:

Does the power mode toggle button (above and to the left of the keyboard) light up for anyone? Mine changes the power mode but it looks like it should illuminate, like the power button across from it.

Is there an affordable place to pick up a slim battery? Mine came with the 8 cell and while I appreciate the longevity, a spare and a slim one at that would be a nice addition while on the go.

Finally, like a lot of people I've had plenty of problems with the touchpad and have been trying many different drivers. Specifically scrolling with two fingers, you can tell it senses the second finger because it will stop moving the cursor, but scrolling accurately is a crap shoot. Any update on a solution?

    Thanks in advance!

Any news on the 1600x900 screen? Is anyone poking around and seeing if it will work? It would be a fantastic upgrade for this laptop.

time to bump an oldish thread.

im running the windows 8 RP, and with touchscreen being the big thing these days, i was wondering what kind of mods exist to convert the screen into a multitouch display.

I found this: 13.3" 4 wire Flexible Touch Screen Panel Solder Type | eBay but the overseas shipping makes it wayyyyy beyond expensive. any ideas anyone?

That's a resistive screen overlay, so you probably won't get multitouch input. I'd inquire with the seller to see if it does offer 2-point multitouch (I've never seen more than 2).

The actual mod itself should be pretty easy to do as far as installation goes: solder the wires labeled for the motherboard to the motherboard for power, and solder the other cables into a usb port.

Finding where to actually house the extra controller board within the laptop however may prove to be more challenging.

If someone can provide part numbers/datasheets for the different screens, you can compare the pinouts to verify that they're compatible pretty easily. If you've got access to the part number (or preferably the datasheet) of the original or a standard replacement LCD for the U36 and the desired LCD's part number (again, preferably the datasheet). I can verify this for you.

I'm looking into the original pinout//datasheet for the U36SD at the moment for my own mod, so If I come across the information I'll repost here.

Hi! Is there any news about upgrading the screen? Or maybe just some suggestions about which higher resolution screen would most likely be compatible, also in terms of "software"??
I wolud really like to make this mod (especially with a matte screen since I am starting to hate the glare one)!!
I've already upgraded ram, hdd-->ssd and wifi card(intel 6300), this one would complete my notebook

does anyone have some new informations about replacing the screen through the CLAA133UA01
i've seen that the CLAA133UA01 needs 2 LCDS Channel. The original panel only needs one channel. is this a problem?

Sooo, just registered to tell you all this.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO UPGRADE THE SCREEN. ;)

The U36 series has the CLAA133WB01A built in. I discussed all this in a german hardware forum and we came to the conclusion, that the only possible upgrade screen would have been the CLAA133UA01 (1600x900 screen) So I called Chunghwa and spoke to a technician and he said it isn´t possible. But I didn´t trust him, so I just grabbed a screen of ebay from the UK.
    1. The screen in my U36SD was taped that hard in the housing that it broke removing it. I was as careful as possible, but I didn´t stand a chance.
    2. The new screen is not recognized by the motherboard. The backlight works but that was it.
    3. Just don´t try to upgrade laptopscreens if the resolution wasn´t an option by the manufacturer.
