I have a V6Va where the fan is contanlty running (hd at 40 and CPU around 52/55)

I have read several threads about applications that manage fan speed and CPU speed. My biggest obsession is to have an (when possible) ultra silent laptop.

What is the better app to use: Power4Gear or NHC?

Should I uninstall Power4Gear before I install NHC??

    Hi,

I used to have an Asus. I can recommend NHC for extreme underclocking (and overclocking) of ati card and undervolting of the Pentium M. In my opinion NHC will help you much more in getting the silent comp. Undervolting CPU will bring you 7-10 degrees less on max speed, and underclocking ATi to 80/80 or even 60/80 will get you more battery life and around 3 degrees cooler comp. NHC can turn off your disk too. Check my signature for interesting links.

    Cheers,

Use both. P4G basically just changes screen brightness, etc. NHC will undervolt the chip. I loaded P4G first, then NHC. I have had 0 problems with great results.

hiya-- hope ya don't mind me creepin in this thread with a couple noob ?'s
the above info about heat interests me and was wonderin if you know how hot (how many watts) the new duo core chips t2300-t2500 run?? when they(laptop chassis manufacturers) know that a certain chip runs hot do they compensate by makin the wires, connections any diferent ie. more able to handle higher watts?? i know AMD turion chips run at 25-35 watts which seems cool to me 'cause then the fan doesn't have to run as much -- right??
    thanx for time

Standard Core Duos will run at 31W.
    More info here.

These CPU's do not run hot.
In fact they run a little cooler than the previous generation single cores.
[measuring (avg. performance / heat output) difference].

Yeah, I am with GregM on this one. I have a Z63a and am using both.
NHC is easy to set up, especially if you follow the instructions listed earlier in this thread and also in FAQ. I have limited experience, but so far my notebook is virtually silent with no stability issues. I get like 5 hrs battery life now and run at 42 degrees. When using NHC, the utility of P4G is kind of questionable, you could just raise and lower the screen brightness using the keyboard, but so far I have not removed it. Use dynamic switching and max battery settings. My voltages are almost the same as those described by ikovac.

    Hi Ngt,

I'm glad my articles helped a bit :). And do you get much temp change at 100% load on max multiplier? I find it the best way of cooling the notebook. Especially when the fan speed depends on the temp. In my case that is two speeds down - much softer.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the comments.
What do mean does it play mp3's? It's a notebook... it does more than just play mp3's.

    Thanks for your help.

I am sorry to say that I am an absolute noob about this and need some more help.

I have installed NHC (latest BETA) and so far have done the following:

1.) Changed the CPU voltage for multiplier of 6 to 0,748V
Changed the CPU voltage for multiplier of 15 to 1,100V
2.) Under CPU Speed enable custom dynamic switching
3.) ticked the field "switch only between min and max multiplier"
min multiplier 6x min load 40%
max multiplier 15x min load 80%
4.) Under Hard Disk set Acoustic Management to Quiet (which then goes to default again)
5.) Fan speed I didn't dare to change anything as it froze my notebook

Have I entered the correct settings?? It didn't change anything to my temperature. HDD is still 40/41 and CPU is now between 52/55??

I must have done something wrong if I read that some changes could bring the temp down as much as 10 points
Should I change something in the ATI settings? This I have not done yet.

    Hopefully someone can help out

No you probably did all ok. At least it seems so. Idle temp will not drop, try playing games and you'll see the difference. On my comp it is 7-10 degrees celsius. It used to be around 75, now is around 65-67. That is two fan speeds down in my case, so it is much quieter.

    Cheers,
