I really don't get the logic/thinking from the people at Asus...

My adapter started making a clicking sound tonight and I called Asus, asking the rep if they could send me an adapter and I'll send the defective one back. I could barely understand the guy since he had a thick Jamaican accent, but after 30 minutes he tells me I have to send not only the adapter, but the laptop itself to the depot.

Last time I sent something to the depot was December 2010 (my G73-3DE) which they kept for 6 weeks, so as you can see, I want to avoid sending anything to that depot.

    Is there an alternative?

I've only had it for 5 days and the Staples I purchased it from is out of stock, so the next closest one would be a 45 minute drive, which I'd really like to avoid (I don't have a vehicle since I'm a student 5min away from the campus).

So is this normal? They never send adapters first like Dell/AW does?

If it's a faint ticking sound don't worry about it, it's probably normal. Some hiss and light ticking is completely normal on AC adapters. I wouldn't worry unless it's loud. If you do really think it's defective though you can just call again until you get them to exchange the adapter. They will do that if you get the right person and make it clear that it's just the AC adapter that needs to be replaced.

Mine just died after a mild electrical surge, guess what it was a two pin adapter plug not triple pin. They start by asking me to handover the laptop with the faulty adapter within a few hour drive away but after few intense technical bashing they told i have to send the faulty one to service after then they can order a replacement :S how stupid. I managed to sent the power brick through fedex and now waiting for a response. might have to pick that damn thing after a week my self : what a service
