I am running a F3sv with Win XP.
I have got a couple of questions
Firstly, Is it possible to use power4 gear extreme with an xp installation.

Also i noticed that the most of the menu items on the top panel are greyed out. Stuff like CPU ect.
It seems like power4 gear will only control the timout options, how do u control the multiplier ect.
I know you can use NHC but i was trying to keep my programs to a minimum.

    Thanks for the help.

To be able to change the performance of the CPU for the presets (e.g. 50% ;) you need to unplug your laptop and run on battery. Now you can change all settings.

I just did a search and I can't find any extreme version for XP. I think your going to be stuck with the normal Power4 Gear utility on XP. I could be wrong though... I'll try searching a bit more.

I have a similar problem (I own F3Ke-AP061), but I still don't more options when the notebook is running on battery. Here is a screenshot:

However, I don't have installed other ASUS software, like NB Probe, Splendid utility, etc. Just Wireless Console 2, of course I have ATK0100 ACPI Utility.

Hmm, another problem. This crappy Power4 Gear software still don't show the other options. But the worse thing is I can't force the processor to run at full speed, sometimes it's on 800MHz, sometimes on 1.8GHz. It's not because of the load, because I ran Heroes 5 and it was still on 800MHz?!

Assuming you have an Intel CPU: I suggest RMClock, with the caveat that it doesn't always work well with newer chipsets and CPUs. See my Tips and Tricks / saving power with the CPU question, for some details.

Note that Heroes 5 may not require the full power of the CPU, in which case it may still run underclocked. I suggest against forcing the CPU to run at full speed, that puts unnecessary stress on the cooling assembly and the CPU itself.
