The settings on the Power4 Gear seem to have got screwed up, and I can't work out how to sort them out. Before, when I was plugged in and using the Super and High Performance settings I used to get a nice bright screen (the envy of my friends in fact). Somehow now, I get a pretty dim screen when plugged in, but (weirdly) if I unplug the computer and go onto battery and select Super or High performance I get the nice bright screen back.

When I right click on the icon in the bottom left and go to configuration it doesn't give me the option of changing the video brightness under Super or High. Stranger still, it does give me the video brighness option under the "Game" setting but boosting this up and then selecting Game doesn't make any difference either.

Am I missing something obvious?

But you can change the configuration of the screen while it is plugged. And it will remember. The only reason is brighter when you unplug it, is because the unplugged set is at higher brightness, which you can also modify. But for the super performance, just use the Function controls to change the brightness.

Do you have AC power plugged in when you click into config? I think that this might be necessary to access the options there under Super/High. There might be a Save somewhere in the menus you have to click as well after you reset the options.

Or increase/decrease the brightness using the brightness keys on the keyboard. It's Fn F5 and F6 on my keyboard. It operates independently of Power4Gear. Maybe you dimmed it by accidentally pressing them.

Middler the way power4gear works is that it memorizes your last profile for AC or Battery.

For example if i plug in my laptop, and then change the profile to super performance, and then take out the plug and go on to the battery setting it to Quiet Office mode.

From now on, when I plug in my laptop it will load the Super Performance profile, and when you unplug it will load the Quiet Office mode.

Also you are able to manually change many of these settings, but in my opinion these preset profiles are quite good.

My A8js has become the same way. The thing is, that it doesn't remember the last screen brightness when on AC power. It does remember when on battery though (or it uses to the settings defined in power4gear), but it resets to a low screen brightness every time you connect it to AC, regardless of which profile is in use.

This is quite interesting, are you sure that no other program is interfering with P4G's settings and modes, like NHC, RMclock or any other program.

On the P4G icon in your system tray, right click it and click on configure, from there you can change around the P4G settings and screen brightness of many modes.

I had this problem for a while and figured it out eventually.

The problem comes when you hibernate. So what you do is plug in the ac power, select the power setting you want (super/high/game/etc.) then hibernate. Start up the computer and turn the brightness all the way up, or to whatever level you want before windows loads. That setting will then be saved in P4G as the brightness setting for that profile.

i'm using nothing but P4G. If I open the configuration, and the laptop is connected to a power, you can't change the panel brightness and when you clik on any profile it resets to about 40%. It might (probably is) the hibernation thing, cause i usually hibernate instead of shutting down, if i want to turn it off.. will experiment tomorrow when i'm not falling asleep writing this post.
