    Hi Asus laptop users,

Ever since I first started using my ASUS W3V laptop in August 2005 I haven't had a single problem with it. Not one crash, freeze, blue screen, nothing. I was amazed after hearing about many horror stories with laptops (not ASUS I mean all brands).

Anyway, I guess my luck finally ran out. Recently on a trip overseas I noticed a couple of minor annoyances.

First a problem with the Power4 Gear utility. When I switch modes from High Performance to E-mail/office it comes up with an error box which says:

    C:\Program Files\ASUS\Power 4 Gear\CFG5.BLC
    Read Power policy file(POWER-POLICY) error!

and a button to click OK which does nothing except remove the error window from the screen.

The following message is also displayed occasionally when trying to switch power modes:

    C:\Program Files\ASUS\Power 4 Gear\CFG5.BLC
    Open Power policy file error!

    Load default setting error!

Has anybody else encountered this problem? Any fixes for it?

The other problem is the computer fails to come out of standby mode and I end up having to press the hard reset or take the battery out to be able to get it going again. That's quite annoying and I've basically had to disable hibernation and standby on the power settings to avoid it from happening.

The computer still works fine its just these minor annoyances that I'd like to fix so my W3V is back to an unflawed condition.

    Any help is appreciated

    Hmm...
you should uninstall and reinstall your ATK0100 driver/utility.
Then, you should reinstall Power4Gear if your problems persist...

Try that and get back to us.

I've had this problem before too, what I did was use the battery so there was 0% power left, even after it goes to hibernation or sleep to conserve that last 2-3% battery I kept turning it on till there wasn't enough power to even switch on, removed the battery, inserted it again then recharged it with my notebook off and it seemed to fix the problem for me, even though I've only had my notebook since March 2006.

    Hope that helps.

    Brendan.

AuroraS: Just did what you said and that solved the problem. Thanks very much.

BWEN: Cheers for the suggestion Brenden, how did you ever dream up that solution for the problem? I'll give it a go later and let you know how it went.

Dang it Aurora you beat me to it. :(

Oops my fault, it's 4am, I was 2 hours too late.

    HAHA

Remember folks, any problems with Power4Gear or actually in my experience, any problems with anything at all, like wireless problems or driver conflicts with your wireless cards and power4gear and Asus related software, try uninstalling the ATK drivers and reinstalling them THEN reinstalling the other drivers as well.

ATK doesn't play well with others. ATK = Attackotherdrivers? :)

Hey, I've been having the same problem for about 3 weeks now. The only difference is that the error box comes up every time I start my computer... I uninstalled (and reinstalled, of course) the ATK0100 utility but the error box comes up anyway...
Also, since this morning, my display is very dark and I cannot change this, or, in other words: I cannot even change the kind of power performance.

As I really do not know what to do I would be very happy if someone could help me. Thanks alot.

Remove both Power4Gear and ATK, then reinstall in the order:

    ATK
    Power4Gear

I think that was AuroraS' suggestion.
