I recently installed an SSD into my Asus N550JV, largely to improve my battery life. Anyway, I had to do a clean installation of Windows 8 using a different key and none of Asus's recovery stuff. I have all the necessary drivers back on now, but I've noticed that my battery life seems worse than it did before, and I'm not totally sure why, but I'm assuming it's in part due to the fact that I don't have Power4Gear on the machine. Unfortunately though, the program refuses to run, and tells me that it only works on Asus computers. Do you know any way to fix this, or if the software is actually doing anything important that Windows can't do on its own? Thanks.

P4G shouldn't have an impact on battery life really, the default Windows power profiles are more than adequate. Do make sure you're on the balanced power plan though.

It is also possible that your display brightness is more than what it was before by default, check that. It is also common for a new Windows install after updates to have to index stuff, etc. so you can sometimes expect a hit on battery life for a short while after the new install.

My brightness is all the way down and I'm not installing updates anymore.

Are you still experiencing the lower battery life? Also, I didn't mean the update installation process, but there is some work done in the background after some updates like those for .net framework that take place after the update is installed that tend to drain the battery. Like I said, P4G or not shouldn't have an effect, but you could try reinstalling it and see what happens. Make sure tog et the version for your notebook.

Yeah. It's odd, I've had the OS installed now for a couple of weeks and no improvement. I'm not really sure what's up, but now I'm getting four ish hours of battery, which is about 30 minutes less than I used to.

    Hello all,

I always used to format and install a fresh copy of OS. I did the same with my new Asus 550JV Later I came to know some drives does,t work with this method.

I cant return back to previous stage as I format my HDD with Diskpart method. Now How can I redo the same with new OS windows 8.1?

Now I have only one Partition. Also I cant enable fastboot and Secure boot on Bios as I do not have recovery partition.
Some one Help me return back to my previous stage!!! Please!!!

UEFI mode requires the drive to run in GPT, so you can still use diskpart to clean out the drive, but you will need to allow Windows to create its own set of EFI partitions.
What do you have in terms of installation media?

Secure Boot can only be enabled if you're running UEFI. If you installed another OS under CSM/UEFI disabled, then Secure Boot cannot be re-enabled. Only one partition sounds like you converted your disk to MBR and deleted the recovery partition; you can't retrieve the recovery partition once you've done that. If you haven't backed it up, then your only route is to get it from Asus, and they may require you to send it to them to restore it.
