    Howdy,
I'm hoping to get a little help before I order an Asus G51j-A1. I plan on ordering from GenTech and since they have options available I wanted to get some opinions before choosing them.

I'm considering adding the IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound on both CPU/GPU. Is this a good idea? Any drawbacks at all? Kinda nervous to have someone open and mess with the notebook before I even get it.

Is there any real noticable benifit to upgrading to 1333Mhz RAM? Can I upgrade later without voiding the warranty?

The only other option I'm considering is the 2X Blu-Ray Read/8X DVDRW Super Multi Combo Drive. Would I void the warranty adding one down the road? Is there any reason to do this now as opposed to later? Such as games or software being avail on blu-ray.

Thanks in advance for the help. I have never owned a laptop before and the last game I played was probably SimCity 2000. Just looking to get an all around decent machine that will play current games if I want it to.

The only drawback of IC Diamond is if the person applying it fails to do so properly but I have no doubts about GentechPC being very capable in doing this. No, you would not void your warranty by adding a blu ray drive down the road- and it'd probably be half the price (even now on ebay they are ~85-100$) There is zero real world benefit from 1333MHz ram. You can can upgrade it later without voiding warranty.

    Hi guys,
i also had a question about the the G51j is the video card upgradable down the road or is it soldered. If not soldered do i remember correctly that asus uses it's own standard for MXM connection (inversed somehow) ? BTW can some one tell me which MXM slot is the GTX260m ? or atleast which one is used in the asus g51j...
    Thanks and Regards

the MXM slot in the G51 is a reversed MXM 2.1 iirc, and no it is not soldered to the board but its highly unlikely that there will be any upgrades possible.
