Hey everyone,
I'm pretty new to this forum and it's my first time posting. I was wondering if any of you have had some experiences with your laptops coming back unpleasantly after RMA.
I purchased a brand new in December to give it to someone as a Chirstmas gift. I turned it on once to make sure everyone ok and I was actually pretty impressed with it. However, it had a couple bright pixels. I wanted it to be nice since it was a gift and started and RMA to replace the LCD under the 0 bright pixel policy. The shipped arrived at the repair facility on 12/17/12. I received it back today 1/12/2013, in far worse than the brand new condition it came in. Before it was sent it was in perfect condition aside from the bright pixel. I turned on only once on a clean desk. I packaged it well (2 inches of bubble wrap on all sides, plus foam peanuts to fill the rest of the box) so there would not be a change for it to get damaged during shipped. I unpacked it today and was extremely disappointed. I listed the problems below. I waited so long to gift this, but there is no way I could gift this now. I'm pretty frustrated. I want a brand NEW replacement laptop, just as I bought this laptop brand new, scratch free and in perfect cosmetic condition to gift.
1) scratches on outside lid.
2) scratches (including one huge black one) on the plastic covering the hinge
3) monitor cable exposed outside hinge covering
4) rubber screw covers on monitor placed poorly
5) screwdriver marks on hinge area where it was probably used to open up laptop casing
6) There is some dust behind the screen glass. Little ones don't really matter, but there is one big piece of dust that is visible when the screen is on.
Some of them might be a little bit more minor but I have no idea how a ASUS tech would look at some of the bigger issues during "final testing" and think its fine.
I sent off the laptop again today. I really just want a new laptop so I don't have to deal with it anymore. It's been so frustrating and time consuming. I don't want to get it back just to know that they addressed some of these issues. I was really looking forward to surprising my friends with this computer but I feel like everything has been spoiled by this experience. The rep said only rarely do they every replace the entire computer. I feel like they should because it was a new computer that came defective (at least under their 0 pixel policy, and because they did a bad job fixing it). I apologize for the frustration, it just ruined my day. Thanks for listening.

The repairshops are notorious for laptop handling. This is in general for pretty much every brand. I guess they are employing monkeys with wrenches over there...
I have also heard of some thefts as well (i.e. replacing the SSD of the laptop with a regular drive, downgrading the CPU etc.). So if you have absolutely no other choice don't send your laptop anywhere...
