Whenever my machine try to go into standby or hibernation mode, it ran into an error. The exact message reads

    "System Standby Failed

The device driver for the standard 101/102 keyboard or Microsoft Natural PS/2 keyboard device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists you may need to update the driver."

It reads the same for hibernation mode except replacing the word 'standby' with 'hibernation' in the above error message.

Btw, I've try going into standby mode right after the startup of the machine. But it reacts the same so I don't think its caused by some kind of conflict with any existing programs.

Did it work at any time? If so you might try a system restore. I'd also recommend you disable hibernation, that's not a very stable system.

I have found standby and hibernation to be very reliable on my W3A. Make sure that you have the latest version of the network card driver and BIOS - I recall that the original version of the network driver caused problems.

standby on my z63a works fine... but hibernation never comes out. goes through the "resuming windows" screen, and then just dumps me to a black/blank screen... Kinda annoying, as I used to use it on my Compaq all the time, never had a problem.

The freeze on resume is common. The Windows Update LAN driver causes this. As John said above, update the LAN drivers from Asus' site and it'll go away.

I appreciate if you can point me to the link for the new network card driver. TIA

    1. Drivers and latest BIOS are available at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us . You will need to search for Notebooks > Z63 series > Z63A.

    2. Hibernation can be enabled / disabled under Power Options Properties > Hibernate.

Note also that enabling the Execute Disable bit in the BIOS used to prevent resume from hibernation. I read that this had been fixed in the BIOS revision although it is not mentioned in the revision history.

I would also comment that I sometimes get a long pause (~ 1 minute) when resuming from hibernation after the computer reads the HDD and actually springs into life. The length of the pause seems to depend on how many applications are loaded.
