OK, well I just got my new laptop setup yesterday. All in all I am very pleased with everything, but one thing is not working as I expected. My laptop, an ASUS M50, will not work dual screen through the HDMI output to another LCD Monitor. I have the cable properly secured from the HDMI out on the laptop to the HDMI input on the LCD. The correct input has been selected on the monitor. I have used the display settings guide on Vista to expand my desktop to the LCD screen. I have also used the ATI Catalyst Control Center to set it up. The computer sees the screen, recognizes it, and actually thinks its working with the second screen, but I still get no picture. Pressing Fn+F8 makes an "LCD+HDMI" icon appear, and once again, the computer thinks it's working, but I still have no picture on the second screen. I have the drivers for the monitor installed on the laptop. The monitor works fine when connected via HDMI with my Xbox 360. The cable is also fine.

So, I'm thinking that I'm eiher forgetting to activate something on the laptop, trying to use the wrong resolution on the monitor, or the HDMI port in my new laptop is broken. Hopefully not the latter, because I've heard ASUS customer service is less then amazing. If anyone could help guide me through this I'd really appreciate it.

For reference, my laptop is this model:

And my monitor is this model:

Im not familar with the ATI drivers, but you did in the general windows display area choose to ether A: Clone your current screen for the 2nd monitor or B: extend your desktop to the 2nd display right?

I chose to extend my desktop to the second monitor. I know that the computer thinks it's working too, because I can move windows and the mouse to the second screen, but I can't see it on the screen.

Something else that I just noticed: The monitor specs say HDMI 1.1, but I know now we are up to v1.3, correct? Do I have a 1.3 output on my laptop? I also know that the xbox 360 runs HDMI v1.2, not sure if any of this could be a problem because if I remember correctly HDMI is backwards compatible...

    uggghh frustration...
