My laptop stopped working. It had usually worked fine, but started having problems and nowadays it seems to have a motherboard problem, or so they said in a store.
Said laptop detects both battery and power adaptor, but when you turn it on the "lamp" led, wireless led an numlock led get stuck (leds number 1,4 and 6 in this picture http://i.imgur.com/OxET8HC.png, starting from the left), no image output neither in the laptop screen (but that may be caused because of a damaged lvds cable) nor the vga output. No noise but after a bit, laptop fan turns on like crazy. If I turn it off and then on, it turns on with crazy fan, makes a "tick" noise and turns off.
What could I do?

I think whoever told you it's the board was correct. You'll have to have it replaced, or reworked by Asus.

Can it be just the processor?

Maybe, though we honestly see far more boards (in general) go bad than CPUs. If the CPU is not soldered to the board, swapping it out might be worth a quick test to confirm or decry which is the problem. Same goes for RAM; bad memory can sometimes cause booting issues. -
Thanks a lot. Btw, is there a way to check if there may be cheaper "compatible" motherboards which i can use with the rest of laptop components or not?

My pleasure! And boards are intended to fit the specific chassis they were designed for, although sometimes you can get away with using a board from the same exact series as long as all the screw locations are the same (and as long as the ports are in the same places). Sadly there's no easy way to check for compatibility/fitting.zombietoads likes this.
