Hi
I just bought the Asus Z70v and have been using it for about a week, and I must say it's been really good so far.
However, recently my laptop has randomly turned on and off one of its functions repeatedly until I rebooted. For instance, a couple of days ago, it muted itself for no reason, then turned the sound back on, then turned itself to mute again and then back on, so on and so forth until I rebooted.
Today, it said it was turning off the LCD (even though it was still on) and it kept showing that it was turning off the LCD... until I rebooted.
Any idea how I can fix this problem?
Thanks so much for your help

That's weird...... about the lcd... it actually told you that it was "turning off the lcd" ?? It sounds like you might want to play with the powersaving features.... not just say... screen saver stuff.. but the advanced options as far as standby and things like that.

Thanks for your quick reply, Justin. I really appreciate it.
You know how when you press the fn + F7 it switches the LCD off (or fn + F10 switches sound on/off).
Well I was just on the computer and the "Sound Mute" box at the top left corner appeared for no reason, then quickly switched to "Sound On" and then back to mute, etc... and it wouldn't stop until I rebooted.
I have the default settings for the power management options... maybe I'll play with that, but I have a feeling it's not just the power management settings, since the sound turning on/off shouldn't be a power settings problem. -
Maybe the Keyboard ribbon cable? Try popping off your keyboard and check the ribbon. Also have you tired uninstalling Power4Gear and reinstall? Also, if you dont have the Power4Gear installed, can you still change the sound settings and Brightness settings using the Fn key, with no problems?

I can change the settings using fn key and not using the Power4Gear.
I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling Power4Gear though and see how that goes.
How do you pop off keyboard?
And once I do that, how do I know if the keyboard ribbon is alright or not?
Thanks -

I know what you mean.. I've seen cases where the Fn key stays down and when you press a corresponding number key it'll shut off the screen or mute the system.... but it doesn't sound like you're doing anything at all when that happens, right?

That's right, Justin.
It's almost as though the laptop is haunted and hates noise and/or the screen...
The problem isn't happening right now... but like I said, it happened twice in the week and a half that I've owned it, so not sure if it's a glytch or what not?
What do you think? -
Hi,
I had a similar problem with my W3v, I reinstalled the ATK0100 ACPI Utility and it seems to be working fine now. -
Thanks, NickM
I'll give that a try -

I'd agree with Nick then... the ATK drivers control all of those Fn keys and all of the other hotkeys........ as well as the powersaving features.... so the driver could have been corrupted....

Atk drivers may be it but if you installed them successfully of the cd that should not be the case. Madmike had a good suggestion. The ribbong cable under it. Remove it and reseat it. I ve had more then one time where certain keys didnt work and reseating the ribbon fixed it. Also check if you spilled something on the f keys. CHeck to make sure the keyboard was seated properly. This may not be as simple as reinstalling the atk driver but would like to see how that worked for you.

... one step at a time..... the keys aren't jammed up or anything.. they're not having any problem with the keys themselves not working properly.....

So I reinstalled the ATK0100 ACPI Utility and everything seems to be working fine (...for now)
I'll keep you posted if anything happens again.
Thanks so much for your help, guys! -

Those drivers control all of your powersaving features and all hot keys and Fn keys... it's pretty important... glad we could be of assistance.
