I read the instruction manual for my new M50sv-a1, and it says that you have to go into the bios to turn on the TPM, and get the fingerprint scanner working. The only problem is, that when I go into the bios, there is no option to enable the TPM. Am I missing something? Please help.

tpm = trusted platform module. it basically makes a virtual encrypted drive
the finger print reader is asus protect manager. it is enabled by default on m50. all you need to do is go to start and asus folder. turn on the s.p.m. and register your finger.

Just go to the lower right hand corner icons and click on the Asus Security Protect Manager (in kind of looks like a light blue nuclear mushroom cloud). Once you open the program you'll see register fingerprints and you can take it from there. It's kind of fun and works quite well.

On all the websites I have visited, they say that it comes with TPM v1.2. The software didn't come pre-installed on the laptop, and that is why I had problems finding it. It is now istalled, and I played with it a little, but have a different question. Does it have the ability to set up the fingerprint verification upon log in into windows? I couldn't figure how to do that.

Hello, I have the a1. Just got it. I dont' have TPM either. I also don't have the asus security protect manager thingy you mentioned. I have two folders off the start menu re asus... Asus and Asus Utility. Neither have this program.

when i first turned the m50 on, it did something about the finger print reader, i swiped my finger, and then it encountered some sort of error saying it couldn't proceed, so i just entered in a typed pwd.

i want to use the finger print scanner to log on to windows.

how do I do this? the device is installed, has latest drivers, i uninstalled the device...it re-installed it.....can't make it work.

Ryan Mitton. Do I need to start all over again with recovery discs?

As a side note, I'm glad this TPM technology is dying out on its own. It had doubtful benefits, at best...

(ryan I don't have an answer maybe Eddie will know)

Look here, under the 'Others' section.

You will find the Infineon TPM driver (is this what you were looking for?) and the Fingerprint driver and utility.

    T-T-Two second search. :)

Tell us if it works please. :)

Thanks Bunsie, that worked great. downloaded it (took a long time from the asus server, be patient), extracted it, ran the .exe file, it restarted my comp, i logged in with my text password, and it asked me to register my fingers, i did my left hand. I checked "login using fingerprint scan" and logged off, logged back on using my pinky, then my left thumb, so it's working great.

Anybody know if we can attach programs to launch using certain fingers?

Thanks for all your help. Ryan.
