    Hi!

I just bought myself a brand new Asus U36SD. The notebook is really fast and powerful but so far I have not been able to get it to recognize any
USB 3.0 device I have plugged into the USB 3.0 port. The pc will recognize all the USB 3.0 devices when they are plugged into the USB 2.0 ports and then it pops up that the speed can be increased if the device is plugged into the super speed port.
The USB 3.0 port also recognizes all USB 2.0 devices when they are plugged into it.
Why wont the USB 3.0 port recognize the USB 3.0 devices? Any suggestions? I have already checked that the driver for the USB 3.0 controller (Fresco Logic FL1000) is installed..

    Best regards
    Harley7985, Norway

HArley, is this the USB 3.0 driver that you installed?

    Version V3.0.119.1
    Description USB3.0 Driver
    File Size 2,43 (MBytes)
    2011.05.13 update
    From here:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download U36SD
Also what version of BIOS are you using? IF you are on 203 you may want to contact ASUS to see if version 205 will fix the problem.

    Hi Josea!

That is the USB driver I am using! I have searched all over the internet for a solution, but I start believing that the USB 3.0 port is faulty. The strange about it is that it recognizes all USB 2.0 devices I plug into it... I hesitate to upgrade the BIOS until I know that such an action will solve the problem..

    Hi guys,

Just as a further data point, I am having the exact same problem and symptoms described by the OP, but with my U36JC.

I've spoken to Asus tech support locally (Australia) and they didn't have any ideas, apart from taking it in to them to look at.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

I've had this problem since I bought my u36sd last year. Did you ever resolve the issue? I'm currently trying a fresco driver I found elsewhere which is supposedly a newer version. I've tried this before, though. Any advice would be great as there's no way I'm RMAing it to them. Side note: Asus tech support is not good. It would have been worth paying the retailer for a no-questions-asked exchange plan. Other than this problem, this is a great machine. I'm about to crack it open and drop an Intel 320-series 120gb ssd, too.

Never had any problem with my usb3. I think its hardware dependant. Try another usb 3 device.

i've tried multiple usb 3.0 devices with this usb 3.0 port on this machine. it persists after multiple formats and multiple driver versions.

symptoms include, but are not limited to, drives taking unusually long times to connect/be recognized by the os and drives losing power/dropping connection during file transfers.

I used driver version 3.5.24.0 and it works flawlessly with wd passport 1TB version. By using the same driver, wd elements does not work correctly. It disconnects with file transfer.
