The keyboard backlighting on my UX32VD will only turn on on one level of brightness, which seems to be the lowest one. So it is either not on at all, or is very faintly backlit.

I am running the newest BIOS (214 I believe) and have the ATK hotkeys package installed.

When the computer boots the keyboard backlight briefly goes up to a higher level of brightness than I am able to obtain at any other time, which makes me think that it's not a hardware related problem. Edit: I have also disabled the ambient light sensor, and having the ambient light sensor in the on position while the computer is in a dark environment does not appear to increase the backlighting level.

All of the other hotkeys seem to function normally. Pressing the ones associated with the keyboard backlight either turn the light entirely off, or as I mentioned turn it on very faintly. Also, the keys seem somewhat unresponsive in that when the light is on at a low level it often takes multiple keypresses of the brightness down key after the pop-up on the screen hsa displayed that the backlight brightness is at a minimum (i.e. should be off I think).

I've searched the forums here and haven't found anything that's helped. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

You probably have automatic backlight control enabled. It uses Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) to limit the level of brightness. Press Fn+ A and make sure automatic brightness control is off and then try increasing keyboard backlight.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunately I forgot to mention that I have already tried this with no success. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ATK software. I thought that maybe I installed something in the wrong order, but I am not sure if a problem this could result from something like that.

Go to the BIOS where drivers and utility does not get involve and you can look or check to see if your keyboard backlight brightness is normal.
