    Hi,

Im having trouble with the new ram I got from Ebay.
It fits and my laptop detects it. Running Windows and doing surfing and such, there is no trouble at all. But when I tried playing Source, my laptop freezes on my 5 minutes into the game.

I have no real idea of the problem. The my rams are mixed brands, One is KingMax, and Memory Expert.

    help??? :(

I'd try one memory stick at a time. See if it locks up on one and not the other. Maybe it's just conflicting. Best way around conflicting sticks are just getting the same ones.

I was thinking of doing that tommorow, but I am not really sure of how to remove a stick of ram.
Because when I snapped the ram in, it seemed that there were some sort of mechaism that held the ram in place, do I just lift the ram up and pull out?

There are two small levers/clips, one on each side of the memory module that have clipped into a small notch on he module. Just nudge them with two fingers at the same time and the module should pop up about half an inch. Then pull it out.

RAM brands shouldn't cause a conflict...
I'd say it's probably one bad stick that's causing the freezing; if you didn't see this problem before, then the new RAM must be causing the problem.

Or you can try just the new rams and see how it preforms by itself...if stable then you might have two different speeds that will cause freezes to you laptop.

Im pretty sure they are the same DDR2-533 both are pc4200, right now im trying just the new memory but havent played source yet.

But on everest, it says that my ram speed is DDR2-533 (266 MHz)

Also could it possible that Steam has a new update or something that may have caused my game to crash?

Alright I tested it out, compared to the old ram and the new one, there is a large performance difference meaning the old one is faster. Also during the CS game, i froze during the game but this time around 20 minutes of gameplay instead of the measly 5 minutes before.

It is possible that the speed of the ram maybe affected from use before? This guy said that the ram is practically new but he might be lying.

As well, could the wrong memory fit into my laptop as well? meaning some other types such as pc2700 or w/e, would those fit into my ram sockets?

DDR and/or DDR2 have same pins I believe....so if you have the wrong type of rams it will cause this freezing of the laptop. Or if you gotten the right DDR's memory but the wrong class (pc2700 vs pc3200, or DDR400 vs DDR533)....conflicts like that will cause intermitent game play and crashes. But from what u said....I think you bought bad rams...

Pins arrangement on the DDR2 is different from DDR. DDR2 ram stick can't be installed on a DDR slot....vice versa

i agree, ddr memory slot cannot be put by ddr2 memory, and ddr2 memory slot cannot be put by ddr memory as well.
