So I was at bestbuy looking at laptops...and of course they have all your typicals, and I just asked how come Asus is not carried.....the worker responded "We used to carry them, but people kept brining them back with sooo many problems that we just got rid of them"

hmm....that has me worried, as I was just about to buy an Asus....any comments?

I don't necessarily find the people at best buy to be the most knowledgeble if you know what I'm saying. there's actually an article on toms hardware documenting a reviewer going into 3 different dept stores to experience what a typical computer shopper experiences, and bestbuy was one of them.

    lol.

Never at any point were ASUS's sold in best buy's (to my knowledge)

I think that guy had no idea what an ASUS was, and made a nice little story for you.

I think the guy you spoke with was mixed up Asus with Acer or something?

I dont believe Best Buy has ever carried Asus.

There's no ifs, ands or buts about it.... Best never carried Asus.... so we don't need to question this because it's never happened. From there, you can question Asus' quality, just never reference it with "a guy at best buy said they stopped carrying them because people returned them". Asus makes a great problem, period.

.... or a great product... however you want to see it.... Freudian slip perhaps? No.... they make a great product - feeling like we have to justify what stupid people tell unknowing customers is probably why the "problem" slipped out.

Heh... I think you mean a great product. Although problem makes the sentance more amusing.

I used to work the computer department at Best Buy.

Best Buy used to carry ALIENWARE, which people kept bringing in with problems, not ASUS.

PS Best Buy employees will lie to you since they are not being paid commission. I have sent many an angry customer to Staples.

This might be the most honest thing a former Best Buy employee has ever said.... admitting that NOT getting a commision causes the same problems, if not more than places that work or worked on commision (like curcuit city)..... instead of getting people to buy more than they need and junk if so desired..... they'll just tell you to go somewhere else, or "I don't work in this department, let me go get you someone who does"... *hours later and still no help*

    1. This guy probably confused Asus with Acer. It happens.
    2. Asus doesn't do much retail.

maybe that's why Asus should be pronounced the proper Ah-Soos, to avoid such confusion/insult.

If I were Asus, when they actually seperated the originally company and called it "Asus" - at the time, Acer was crap, even back then...... Even the rest of Acer knows how crappy their stuff is and have pushed everything but their notebooks under their Benq name in the states for the last few years..... That's helped the sale of everything else they make... I'd say Asus should change their name, but no matter what they do, people who don't know anything, still won't know anything.....

So true ... so many of my friends ask me why I insist on ASUS, what's the difference with ACER they say. Somehow there's an association between those 2 names for no discernible reason. Prob because they think they're both taiwanese companies, the quality etc will be the same.

They are both four letters... start with A and most people have never seen either and what little they've heard is bad and it's about Acer... But don't get me wrong, most of these people also think dell is the best thing on the market and are interested in Asus because they can't afford a dell..... afford a dell? I'm sorry for anyone who just choked on their tougne while laughing at that..... If you can't afford a dell, you have bigger issues to deal with than buying a new computer.

    hi proportable

thanks for the compliment on honesty ^^

Selling computers retail will always run into problems...my coworker who used to work at CompUSA (where there was commission) told me stories about selling $2000 desktops to grannies playing solitaire. I guess the best bet when buying computers is to find someone who's knowledgeable to buy/build one for you.
