We recently got two Asus EEE 1015PEG machines with internal 3G connectivity for use in the field and we're having trouble with one of them (mahcine #1).

When I set up machine #1 for the first time, I noticed that the 3G init phase was unusually long following reboot or resume. It took about 90 seconds before the modem was ready to connect.

I called support and they said that's normal so I thought we'll live with it. It was not before I set up machine #2 that I realized that 90 seconds is not normal as machine #2 took 20 seconds at most to initialize.

I reformatted machine #1 and the problem went away.

Unfortunately, we now have another 3G problem with machine #1 as it sometimes loses the internet link for no reason in an open location with excellent reception. (I don't know what's the exact error because I don't use it.) The problem happened twice and each time it was resolved by re-seating the SIM card, but that doesn't look like a real solution to me.

The internal modem is Huawei EM770W and we run Windows 7 Starter. I can't change the modem because that would break the warranty. Any idea how I should go about troubleshooting considering the problem is so random -- but at the same time devastating to us.
