So I basically have no idea why it's doing this. I wasn't using it for a while. Before then it worked just fine. Now whenever I try to use it, it either won't open up or will not read an CDs/DVDs whenever they are put in.

It's confusing because it shows up in BIOS and it's properties in my computers and shows all the details like how it's connected, what's its name, who manufactured it, driver versions and everything.

There is one detail that I do recall however when I think a bit. I tried upgrading to Windows 10 since I met the RECOMMENDED specs but there were problems such as not being able to find certain programs that were part of the original factory install software and flat out losing display upon trying to switch profiles (e.g., high performance to power saver and vice versa). Ever since then I have noted a few things not working correctly. Namely the profile manager which requires me to manually find the executable and activate and the other is possibly this problem with the DVD drive.

Can someone please give suggestions? I had to get to some studying material on a CD.

    My computer is a N71JQ from 2010.

Can you open with a Paperclip? Maybe it just needs a little help to get the mechanism to push it out.

I probably would if it didn't open ever. But it did recently and I checked to see if it would read any of my CDs/DVDs. It doesn't. It doesn't even sound like any of them are spinning inside like that whirring sound you hear whenever you insert optical media into the optical media drive.

Windows 10 shouldn't have anything to do with it really, the drive might just need replaced. You could try to boot off the drive with a bootable disk to verify that outside of windows.
