    Problems with X50RL-AP999 / F5RL

    Hey guy's, this is my first thread so apologies if anything is wrong.

    I visit NBR quiet alot and i know how knowledgable you guys are, so I'm hoping some of you kind souls can help me.

    My girlfriend recently got an Asus X50RL-AP999 (or a F5RL as I understand it is called in some regions) for xmas but there seems to be a rather strange problem with it. Without warning, the laptop will "blue screen" and force itself to restart. The blue screen message isnt a normal one that I've seen before, it mentions something about performing a memory dump. The message doesnt stay on for very long so its hard to read the whole screen in the time given. This behaviour is very random and it has been very hard to pinpoint what is exactly causing this to happen. It occurs both when the laptop is plugged in and when running on the battery.

    This is very annoying and the laptop will most definately be sent to the manufacturer. At the moment my girlfriend needs the laptop to get her University work done so in the meantime I'm calling for help here to understand the problem better. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? has anyone dealt with Asus in fixing a laptop?

    Ofcourse, any help of anykind will be much appreciated. If there are any questions that you'd like to ask I'll be more than happy to do what I can to have them answered.

    Most bluescreens like that often are caused by drivers or memory issues.
    Although as you said, it's hard to pinpoint and is completely random.

    To confirm if it is indeed a memory issue, I would suggest running memory tests like MemTest for DOS or wPrime / StressPrime Orthos for Windows. I suggest SP 2004 Orthos as the interface is a little bit more user friendly. If you use any of the Prime stress tests, make sure your using Blend FTTs as that focuses more on the RAM. Run the test for at least 2-6 hours and see if you get any errors. If you do, I suggest sending it into ASUS Warranty or your Asus Product dealer for a memory swap.
