    Hey

I just bought an Asus g50v in Denmark. Vista crashed and I had to press and hold power button for 5 sec to shut down. This resulted in vista error and I had to delete my partitions to recover vista. Anyway, This time I used Raid0 just to test, but for some reason I cannot install Intel turbo Memory. When I use the software from support.asus.com , and Intel.com it only installs Intel Matrix Storage Manager, but nothing related to the Turbo memory. Any suggestions? Can I deactivate/activate it in bios (got version 209)? Will turbo memory even work with raid0?

    Happy new Year!

    Specs:
    G50V-AK020K
    - Intel Centrino 2 C2D T9400 2.53GHz
    - Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate 64 bit
    - 15.4" (WSXGA+, Glare type)
    - NV GeForce9700M GT 512MB DDR3 VRAM
    - RAM 4096MB(2048x2) DDRII 800
    - 640GB 5400rpm SATA HDD(320Gx2)
    - 2GB Turbo Memory
    - Blu Ray Combo
    - Video Camera Built-in(2.0 million pixels)
    - Intel Wifi Link 5100 (802.11agn)
    - Bluetooth
    - Ultra-high resolution optical mouse
    - Gaming Carry bag
    - 6 cell battery

Vista index is 5,5 now with Raid 0 

I didnt think any of the g50's had Turbo memory... I figured they could but none of mine ever did.

Anyway I seem to recall seeing some posts about this in the past... I think it cant work with raid enabled... Dumb yes I know but thats how they got it for whatever...

And I have never seen any options for it in the bios so my guess is no on that part... Unless they only show up with the module installed...

unless you ordered specially for the turbo memory you dont have that part on your computer. My dell comes with a special option in bios to enable and disable ITM. also note that for ITM to be working you need to enable AHCI in your bios (on by default in almost all systems)

it is installed from Asus. It worked before my vista recovery without any raid setup. But i dont know if it has anything to do with my new Raid 0 setup... I'll check out the bios again.. any other suggestions?

its actually the first time I ever setup a raid :S ...But this was how i did: First i changed harddrive behaviaor to Raid enstead of Enhanced in BIOS. Then i pressed CTRL+I and made a new Raid0 disk called Main. Thats pretty much it... My vista harddrive score went from 5.1, to 5.9 (max) so it should be working.

theres nothing in the BIOS related to ITM or intel turbo memory...

atm im using danish Vista.. so not sure if i translated perfectly... but when I right click on "computer" and choose administration, and choose storage or disk management, then before the recovery, i could see a drive with 1,5gb, and that was the ITM. But its not there anymore...

    It is the raid than.

If it must be in ACHI mode than you cant use it because you cant be in that mode and in raid as the setting is on the same menu...

So you lost that because you picked raid.

    It does still suck though.

I wonder if its a bios limitation that Asus can resolve or just the nature of how the technology works. If the turbo memory is the one that requires ACHI than it will never work with raid. If its just asus not setup correct than a future update may resolve it.

So in the meantime its a wast that its in your computer. (Boy that would me off) but than again my express gate dont work because I changed my wifi card to a 5300 instead of the 5100 so I lost that function, haha.

We just cant have it all can we? lol

The G71V has exactly this problem and I have been going around and around with Asus with it as they say "There is no fault"

When in AHCI (non raid) mode Turbo memory works fine
Enable RAID and Turbo Memory gets disabled by the BIOS automatically. The drivers support it but for some reason the laptop turns the PCIe slot that it is plugged into off.

There is nothing that Asus are willing to do about it as they say its working correctly, Intel say that it is a BIOS problem and Asus needs to fix it. Catch 22.

I gave up in the end and have fitted a 7200RPM main drive and use the other bay for a 500GB storage drive.

so what would u recomment? Cancel the raid 0 and get ITM instead? which is fastest?

its a shame, because i really like the g50v :) but im glad i'm not the only one, who has that issue....

Check Asus up with your mobo capability. It's always good to know or find out.

Well look at it like this.

Raid 0 has a little higher chance of data loss because if 1 of the two drives fail than all data is gone... But you get more speed.

no raid, you can backup the data across the drives to eachother and if one failed be okay.

But here is something to think about.... The slowest thing on a computer is the hard drive... So I myself rather have raid 0.... While yes turbo would be great also but research has shown it does not give enough of a boost with anything. Esp if we got 4GB of ram... Its such a small improvement. Now the hard drive going raid 0 is a big improvement... :)

As you already have the raid and install done I would just keep like that. Maybe one day Asus will learn how to code and fix this, than you just flash and get both... Or maybe not... But its your call. Raid 0 will give more preformance than the turbo memory will in my eyes though.

    thx for all your answers..

think im gonna switch the primary harddrive with a 320gb 7.200rpm (ca. 99$ in DK) and then use the ITM for a little extra boost. I actually think my 3dmark06 score went down a bit going from ITM to raid 0. Im getting 72xx atm. think i got 73xx with ITM..

    over and out.
