I got a response from Asus about how to follow up on my order for Windows 7, and they asked me to email and fax them my proof of purchase. Do they want a copy of the reciept or something, and if so, how will they know that it's mine? They really don't tell me what kind of information they need, so I was hoping one of you guys can tell me.

Maybe if you actually read my post, you would understand that there is another dilemma to my problem. If I send them my receipt, how will they even know that it belongs to me? They don't leave any instructions as to what other kind of information I need to send along with the receipt. I recieved the email about a month ago and have just now been able to get my hands back on the receipt since I was away at college for a while, so if I just sent it now, I can't think of any way that they would be able to track it down to me. Thanks

My apologies. I was under the assumption that you would send a copy of the instructions that they sent you in the email along with the receipt. They should have a record of your order of Windows Seven, so just give them the basic details that you used to order Windows from them such as your name, billing address, etc.

I take it you went to the ASUS website and initiated the Win7 upgrade. As part of it you are required to provide your name, phone number, address, email, the make and model of the ASUS laptop along with its S/N. Not to mention the date of purchase.

As part of the process you will then receive an order number along with the instructions on what to do next. You will also receive an email to the email you provided in the order.

That email is a cover letter, you have three options to complete the order. Email, Fax or Phone iirc. Like myself if you are in the states typically Email is about the most sensible alternative.

With that said you will need the ability to scan both the cover letter email they sent you as well as the receipt so that you can send it to the email address for the Win7 upgrade program.

Regarding the purchase depending on where you got it as you didn't include that in your post (Best Buy, NewEgg, GenTech, etc) will really not matter as you can only provide them what you yourself received as a "receipt". However depending on where and what is on the receipt you may have to provide additional information, like the address and phone of the business you purchased the laptop with. You could probably include that in the email body along with the two attachments (scanned receipt and scanned cover letter confirmation).

Hope this helps if not you may want to call the number ASUS provides to help folks like yourself who have questions regarding their upgrade process. That number is provided as part of the order process.

The longer you wait to start the upgrade process, the further you are going to be down in the queue when Asus eventually starts to send them out and the longer it takes to get to you -- and they take several weeks at least to do this -- no one is going to get them right after 10/22.

They send you the package w/ the CD + guide how to install it. They can ship it all over the world, just the cost of shipping varies from country to country.
