I'm trying to prove to this douchbag that ASUS builds IBMs. Where can I find a link to this? He says that ASUS is from taiwan but IBMs are manufactured in China.

A chinese company bought out the notebook division to IBM and I think the contracts they signed this time last year with Asus are probably null and void at this point...... But I think you can still look that info up on "the register" or "slashdot" even.

    Thanks,

This is the original news source from last year. Haven't seen anything more solid than this, but there was lots of othes news outlets referencing this one story. My guess would be that either they're already making some IBM model (if so, I'd guess the recent R50-series) or the deal didn't go through in the first place. Just because Levono bought IBM's consumer PC-buisness hardly mean that any such contract would be null and void. In 99% of buisness purchases the buyer will have to fulfill any current obligations of the asset they're buying.

I don't know what they're doing.... but IBM originally wanted Asus to breath some new life into the thinkpad line.......... then they say reviews of the S5....... that's when all this stuff started. I haven't heard anything about this since either.

    Thanks,

Can't say I blame tham if they were looking at Asus to revigorate their subnotebook/ultraportable series' (as the Asus lineup in that segment, from the S5 to the W3, is undoubdfylly very solid). However: There's only been incremental upgrades to the IBM T4(n) and X3/4(n) systems for the past year, so I doubt that Asus would have taken over any of those (from Quanta I think, at least they were the major IBM ODM in the P4-M era) mid-stride (so to speak).

So maybe it didn't happen after all. It might be easier to know things like this for ceirtain if the reported restructuring of Asus' notebook buisness goes through.

I know that LG makes 1 or more IBM notebooks.

I was considering getting an LM60, but theyre not available in the US because they have a non-compete agreement with IBM.

I believe ASUS makes 1 or more apple notebooks, and the IPOD mini and shuffle. Maybe they make IBMs and others too, not sure.
