Hi, I saw it in NCIX for around $1700 CAD. I like it because it is portable 13.3'' and has a decent video card. Most 13.3s have GMA950 anyway :p.

I just want to know some pros and cons (mostly cons) about the notebook.I have heard that it's got low battery life and heats up a lot. Is this true?

Also, is it possible to buy a better battery? Like a 9-cell one or something for the w7j.

    Thanks

I can't say about heat, but battery life is indeed subpar: you can squeeze out 2:45 hours at most. IMHO the biggest con is the 512Mb of RAM soldered on the motherboard, so that the most you can have is 1.5Gb. Bye bye dual channel. For the rest, it seems like a solid machine.

the w7j does have a 9-cell battery that boosts the life by a bit. i believe the forum member roguemonk posted about that. if you don't game, you could always check out the asus z35f. it is similar to the w7j except with no gpu and no webcam. it does have much better battery life.

Yes, I think it was roguemonk. Depending on the usage it was almost 5hrs of battery life.

I also agree with Claudione, the soldered ram is one of the biggest cons. I know there are some more, though, not really major ones because I can't remember them, its more nitpicking than cons. But, I am sure there are threads on this issue.

One pro for the W7J is that is looks DARN good. I saw someone at a wireless lounge on campus with one and it was beautiful.

I would've taken the W7J over the A8jm is it wasn't for the go7600 and better battery life.

Those are two misconceptions. First of all, the W7J can squeeze 3:15 or more out of the standard battery. Second, the Intel 945 chipset supports dual channel with out matching DIMMs. with 1.5gb on the W7J, 1gb would be dual channel and the final 512 would not be.

For the original poster, all the pros and cons of the W7J will be clear after a read through this thread - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64994

You know, it just might be me, but because I can't find the thread regarding my fustration (which it could just be me), something keeps bugging me. I remember back when there were a bunch of pros and cons threads for the 3 infamous asus units. I remember the w3j and a8jm has something the w7j doesn't. I don't mean like the better hardware, dvi, infrared, hot swap bay or anything like that. It was something to do with one of the ports, I/O interfaces or something rather like that. Like I said it could be me, so I am checking the specs, hopefully its me.
