Has anyone heard of/used a notebook from Prostar? How do they rate in comparison to ASUS quality? I'm only asking because I am skeptical of their relative low cost compared to ASUS for equal specs....

Prostar doesnt make notebooks you are looking at clevos and uniwills i think. same as sager it looks like. they are good machines depends what you want. those are more gaming rigs which asus is lacking in. you can find reviews on some of those models on this site.

Prostar is a disti of notebooks. Suposedly they are reseller direct only but iam pretty sure they have a internet presence under them selves. You cant compare asu to any other name. Asus is the only manufacturer of quality laptops that has any sort of presence in the states.

averatec is actualy a pretty well known name but something different all together. they are a brand prostar uses whitebox clevos and uniwills. But very popular in the enthusiest crowds.

Lets put it this way..... I've heard of people who think they're enthusiests - know or have owned a pro-star but haven't a clue who Asus is - in any form... which is unlikely if the people knows anything about computers...... but at the same time, these people think pro-star is an ODM, which if false as we all know anyway...

i meant clevos and uniwills are popular with enthusiests, not prostar.

like the others have stated, Prostar doesn't make their own notebook. Take a look at the ODM list I compiled here
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=33124

from the time of writing, it seems that ALL of Prostars offerings were Clevo models. Ultimately it depends on what you want to do. Asus makes a wide range of laptops, most of the Clevo models being sold by resellers are usually heavy gaming rigs (Clevo does make other types of laptops but you rarely see it in the states)
