I've had numerous Dell's for over 5 years and I've been able to achieve via a dock 3 independent screens. 1 would be the laptop itself and the other would be two monitors. So three independent screens could be achieved. I'm told via ASUS support that this is not possible with the Best Buy ASUS Q535 which surprises me. Has anyone been able to achieve this?

With a dock connected to the USB port you can definitely achieve 3 independent displays, however the extension displays will only allow desktop usage but no gaming.

Thank you Kevin, I am unable to achieve this using the USB Type C port on the laptop connected to a "StarTech.com TB32DP2 Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter - 4K 60Hz - Windows Only Compatible - Monitor Adapter - DP Adapter" which is the exact name on amazon of what I bought. Am I using the wrong port on my laptop or is the device incorrect?

USB Type C does not mean it contains a TB3 controller. You will need to use USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 type of dock.SSA likes this. -
The q535ud sold at best buy (i7-8550u, 16gb, 256gb/2tb gtx1050, etc) according to specs on asus site has a full 40g thunderbolt 3 port. That should drive two external 4k displays by itself. The 1050 GPU (and the UHD 620 for that matter) should have no trouble driving three displays. Now the lower priced 15" 2-in-1 without the 1050... also does NOT have Thunderbolt 3.

You are right, this model has a TB controller. Please note that TB controller drives the display on its own but not through dGPU. If you want to power multi-display via dGPU then you will need DisplayPort that is directly linked to it. -
Interesting... so the dGPU could connect via DP over USBc to connect to an external montor... and/or it could use the HDMI (which the jury is out on it being a 1.4 or 2.0)... you could also turn off the dGPU and user TB3 out to an eGPU box and drive external monitors via whatever that card could handle.
To date I still haven't seen one of the q535ud machines in the wild. All best buys in the area show them in stock but none have them on display... They all display a lower end flip 15 running the advertising video for this model. One guy insisted it WAS the q535 until I showed him the screen resolution. No reviews either. -

Seems like none of the external ports are GPU-driven except HDMI but you may want to double check with ASUS on this as it's possibly using Optimus.
