I'm considering on buying an Asus noteobook, but I'm having trouble understanding how the warranty works. There are resellers who customize the Asus based notebooks, so are they Asus branded and supported or are they supported by the individual stores?
I ask this because I will be travelling to Europe and need an International warranty so I won't be stuck with a dead computer.
Basicly are the customized notebooks sold by stores covered by the two year warranty back by Asus internationally?
    Thanks

okay if it has an asus sticker on the notebook cover... den u'll get
full asus support meaning its an "authorized asus dealer" if not
den ur support is with the store u purchased it from... since it'll
be considered OEM... and therefore u won't have asus support

diabolical7 pretty much summed it up. If your notebook came with the 2 years international warranty sticker, then you'll get full ASUS support. This sticker is usually located beside the touchpad. You can't miss it. If not, then you have to deal with the store you purchased from and just to be on the safe side, buy an extended warranty, if the store offers it.

    hi,

i'm also concerned about the 2 year international warranty, because i do really need it.
however, chances are my purchase will likely be on-line. now there are so many shops and many ways to buy this m6. how do i know which shops are "authorized sellers" that do have those sticker on?

Yup. Furthermore, if the notebook came with the 2 year international warranty, it will definitely be stated in the product description.

i see, thanks for the info.

as you can see, i am also in search of an ASUS M6.
i would like to buy it in canada but the problem is, every site that i have checked so far stationed in the ontario area (toronto, kingston) did not say anything about the 2 year warranty.

am i just looking at the wrong shops, or is it just a commong thing in ontario, canada, that it is hard to find an "official" asus notebook?

I'm from Canada as well. During my search for the ASUS line of notebooks, I had a difficult time locating one that came with the ASUS 2 year international warranty. The only models I found that came with this warranty were the W1N and the S5Ne, since the components in both models are from ASUS, if you know what I mean. The reseller is does not need to install a cpu, ram, etc.

I live in Southern Ontario. I got the M6N from www.etccomputer.ca, but they don't seem to carry it anymore.

Do you want the M6N 15" SXGA+ w/Radeon 9600? Or just the 2 year international warranty? If you had a notebook that ran fine for a year, then you can gurantee that it will run fine the next year and so on. Notebooks don't "break down" that often. Furthermore, my notebook came with a 1 year store warranty. The RAM I believe has a lifetime warranty (like most RAMs) and the Dothan cpu comes with a 3 year warranty. I wouldn't worry much about the warranty if that what's holding you back from making your purchase, but that's just me.

hmm, that's a very good point.

i want the M6Ne, with non-wide screen and the ATI 9700, and as for the warranty, i guess i just don't feel safe, having not used notebooks before. if the international warranty is ,like you said, holding me back from my purchase, then would i better off buying this in Kingston, so that I can at least get the store warranty, which would be much more convenient (proximity to queen's university) than toronto? just a thought.

    thanks for the help :)

The Kingston store is pretty good, but IMO their prices are a tad bit high. However, it would prolly cost you the same if you purchased in Toronto, since you would be wasting gas money if you drive down to the store to pick up. I got my M6N - 15" SXGA+, Radeon 9600 for $2292 including tax with the following specs.

    Intel Centrino 1.5GHz Dothan
    512MB DDR PC2700
    Intel wireless pro 2200 b/g
    Toshiba 60GB 5400RPM
    DVD/CDRW
    etc.

The Kingston store I am referring to is this store. http://www.kingstoncomputerplanet.com/

IMO stands for "in my opinion".
