I'm considering buying a ASUS N81Vp-D2 notebook. I've heard that ASUS N81Vp-D2 has the FN key placed on the left on the ctrl key - can anybody confirm is this is true? I've seen photos which both contradict and confirm this from various websites. I also heard another user complain about keyboard lag - is this also true or just an isolated incident for that particular user?

    Thanks :)

AFAIK, the Fn key is on the left of the Crtl key for all N81Vp series (at least in the US).

The keyboard lag issue doesn't seem as widespread when compared to the M50 series. Although I tried posting a fix, some has found it to work, while others were less fortunate.

Thanks for your quick response. Do you or any other user know if it is possible to remap the fn key using a keyboard remapping software? On a side note - I used to have a lenovo t61 which had the same - fn key to the left of the ctrl - layout and that couldn't be remapped because the fn key was attributed to the bios.

    re: fn/ctrl key placement...

*some* of the d1s have it on the left, some on the right.
for eg. I've had email confirmation from xoticpc that the d1 has fn on the left
another eg. is buy.com (at that time, a few months ago)

other d1s have fn on the right.
for eg. i bought my d1 from gentechpc, and they explained that some batches of the d1 have diff keyboard layout.

as for d2's, AFAIK, ctrl is on the left corner.
if in doubt, ask the reputable resellers that you intend to buy from - they can check with their stock and give you a definitive answer.

as for keyboard lag, I can tell you that my d1 is running ubuntu karmic 64 and windows 7 64, neither of which shows lag with all the drivers loaded (inc. touchpad)
it also ran windows XP pro 32 bit a while ago with no lag and all drivers from asus website.

I did not have vista 32 bit on long enough to notice any keyboard lag.

none of these *should* have changed in the d2, since the only difference was an OS refresh and (possibly) a downclocked ati 4670 instead of 4650 - i've seen reports, comments, reviews etc go both ways

My N81VP-D2 has the CTRL on the left. I am in Canada.

I experience no keyboard lag (and I type 80+ wpm).

most times when they say it;s key board lag it's likely because of their "palm" accidentaly touched the mouse pad .. It's easy to show , try keep keyying one key non-stop while your other hand move the mouse on the mouse pad . You will notice it misses some keys.

When I go to Control Panel > Mouse > Mouse Properties > Device Settings and disable touchpad, then open notepad and type sentences at about 80-100wpm, I still notice the keyboard lagging occur. It misses some keys even when touchpad is disabled via Device Settings. Should keyboard lag be occurring if the touchpad has been disabled?

Disabling internal touchpad in BIOS settings stops the keyboard lag, though. But it's only a temporary solution and doesn't allow one to use the touchpad.

    My specs:
    Asus N81Vp-D2
    Win 7 Pro 64-bit

the D2 i bought 1 month ago has the ctrl on the left of the Fn key. the GPU is 4670. I might post mine up for sale in a few weeks. I've only used it for total of 5 hours and it's very portable and fast with the T9600.
