Hey i have a question about Asus A7J here are specs:
    -Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHZ(2MB Cache & 667 MhzFSB)
    -512MB DDR2 667MHz
    -ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 256MB GDDR3

My question is hows that notebook future proff for playing games. How long do you guys think i'll be able to play games on it before games requirenments will go too high. I know that this notebook is able to run oblivion. Im seriously thinking of purchasing this notebook and your opinion on it would help a lot and be very appriated. Right now i can get it for $1,888 Can. Do you guys think i shoud get it? Is it good future proff? Thanx in advance.

Don't let anyone give you any other answer than this.... you can't future proof a computer... especially a video card. The card is excellent, but in two years it'll certainly look anemic when it comes to the newest games of the time.

It's a very good graphics card and a more than decent system.... You can't really ask for anything more...... is that a Canadian price you're giving?

Agreed, the gpu is the one thing that you cant upgrade but need to if gaming is your thing....thus impossible to future proof a notebook for gaming. That said the X1600 is a very nice gpu...unless you go for a specialty gaming rig like alienware etc you will be hard pressed to find a better gpu in any notebook.

The A7J is a gorgeous laptop. Aside from the nice screen, the audio is superb. I have yet to see/hear another laptop with as nice sound.

Graphics performance is good, just as long as you keep your detail settings reasonable. I managed Oblivion on it okay. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was really choppy. Call of Duty 2 was good with adjustments to effects.

If you plan on gaming I would strongly suggest you up the ram to 1GB. Apart from that it will be a good gaming rig for a couple of years

Sorry to break it to you but you're better off looking at another computer. The A7J can't run oblivion on high settings at native res. The video card is quite weak for a 17" gaming notebook too. I'd definately check out Dell Inspiron 9400 if i were you, you can get a 7900GS for about 1700$ CAD before taxes. Now, a 7900GS will run your oblivion nice and smooth.

Since this thread is about the A7J, I'd like to know how quickly it heats up. And where is the heat vent? Does it have a keypad? Is it Merom ready? Can I get a barebone and customize it myself, or is it an ensemble?
