Hi, I've been watching the flood of laptops with variant 8600s on the market, and have been trying to pick which one to go with. I've always been a staunch supporter of Asus, and have been thinking of going with an Asus G2S.

I currently have a Z96Js, with 2.0 Ghz C2D, x1600 256 MB, 2 gigs of ram, and 100 gig 7200 RPM hard drive, which I put together myself purchasing as a barebones and getting the parts I needed.

My question is, will the G2S be a great upgrade for me, or will it be so-so? I'm looking at ordering one from Best Buy, as I can finance it, and think the only difference going from them and not a reseller is I lose out on the backpack and mouse? I was also wondering if their is any possibility of buying this as a barebones from someplace, as I prefer putting my own systems together, even though I would lose out on the warranty.

    Thank you.

Quite a bit of an upgrade, as far as graphics are concerned.. G2S is an ensemble system- Every reseller will carry the same models, withe perhaps a little difference here and there. They'll at most change the HDD and RAM for you...

you sound like the kind of person that may be intrested in a Asus C90S. Barebones do it yourself with alot of power for the money.

The G2S will be a nice upgrade tho.

Heh, after doing some quick research on the c90s, I am indeed interested in it. Only downside is that it's a 15.4/1680x1050. I like how it's customizable to the extent it is, and the fact that I can fit a desktop processor into it, but I was looking more for a midrange 17 incher with a 1920x1200 resolution.

Sadly, after looking at other choices and options, I might wait till they can bring the 8800 to a 17 inch platform, hopefully a variant of the c90s line, as that idea is something I think is great, especially being able to choose my own MXM card.
