Bad News, My New W2V does not take a charge on the Battery. I know I can send it back to Asus, but:
1: How do I test the Cable, First? I tried my wife's Dell Cable, which works as well as the Asus, yet NO Charging.
2: Perhaps I have a setting wrong or the Battery is not plugged in correctly? I doubt it.
3: How do I test the Battery apart? What if it is not the battery, but an internal thing? Then this will be a mess, How do I troubleshoot this?
I wanted an additional battery, anyway, where can I buy one? If the 2nd battery works, then it is definitely only the Battery.
Also:
I read most posts and know they stated that the Media Center needs new remotes. Fine, but:
1: How do I get the Media Center Programs out and where would I get the Asus Mobile Theater Program from?
I really wanted the Mobile Theater program. I also am quite bummed it did not come with it.
2: Where would I get the PCMCIA Remote?

Ok..... well I don't want to tell you that was a bad idea, but exactly what were you doing with your wife's dell? Were you using the ac adapter or just the cord that might have been plugged into your adapter?
if the battery isn't charging and the charging light isn't coming on........... yet the power light on the ac adapter is on..... there may be someting wrong with the charging curcuit in the notebook itself. If it's constantly charging but not holding a charge, then it's probably the battery.
.......... I don't know why you want the mobile theather program..... especially if you've ever heard me talk about it..... it has nothing on MCE, but if you have MCE you should also have the MCE remote.
We have come PCMCIA remotes but they technically aren't for sale because they only work with mobile theater (which we also have)........ but they don't work with the tv tuner that is in a unit that came with MCE...........
hope that makes sense....... -
If you have a US model of the W2V and you want asus mobile theatre to run dont think about using it to watch tv cause it only works with MCE.

That's for putting that another way.... I think my comment needed it.... you simplified it for me.

No, I only wanted to test the cord, briefly.
The Adapter had the charging light and it went off. It does say it is charging, yet the battery is @ 0%. I have never seen the charging light on the notebook turn on.
As far as the Mobile Theater, just a personal preference. It looks very cool and it came with the mini remote. As far as TV is concerned, I probably will never watch TV on this, ever. I wanted the mini remote for music and watching dvds.
Now if I have the old large remote and need to call Asus for the new MCE remote, why not switch to Mobile Theater and get the mini remote, which to me, will be much more enjoyable, especially for music and DVD's on the road. To store the mini in the card slot is amazing.
Thanks -
Is this something that is easily fixed @ Compusa or BestBuy or do I really need to go without the notebook and send it back to Asus?

If you let anyone at compusa or bestbuy touch your W2 - say goodbye to your warranty.....
If your unit have MCE they won't give you the other software or remotes....... we're probably the only ones with them actually becasue we had to remove them from the initial shipment and had to go out and buy MCE remotes to send customers.......... Asus US probably wouldn't have them, but they would give or sell them to you because the software and remote isn't going to work with the tuner..... and that's the main function of the software. If they give it to you, they have a responsibility to make it work. -
So can I get them from you? Can I get the Mobile Theater, as well. Can you test the battery? Thanks.

I also wanted to get an additional Battery. And Since the notebook is new, I have the AMT Remote, anyway, I need to contact asus for the new one. If I can get the Mobile theater and the pcmcia remote, I won't need to. Anyway of taking mce out and just having mobile theater?
-
I have no programs installed, as of yet. BTW, I did throw a Bad Boys II DVD in and MCE said it needed a special decoder?
When I connect to ASUS Live Update, it says I have the most current software and there is nothing to update.
I dreamed of this aluminum beast with mini remote and Mobile Theater and of course a working battery. Through Asus changes, it seems I am stuck -

MCE still needs an mpeg decoder - and for that you need to install Asus' AsusDVD.
Asus has had the same configuration on the W2vb in the US since September....... I can help you with the software and remote but I'm going to tell you right now that I wouldn't suggest it and I don't want to hear about it when you're not satisfied with it because I am warning you upfront... but you want it and if you want to play around with it, be my guest.
As far as your battery - call Asus -- it's their unit to warranty and you honestly haven't given enough details for me to tell you what could be going on, but they can help you. -
Thank You, Justin. I promise I won't cry about it. I do want to play with it and get the remote and software. If it doesn't work out, I can always use the restore disc.
The Battery, simply does not take a charge. I do not know how to isolate and test the battery, cable or laptop to see if it is the Battery, cord or charging circuit. I also wanted to get an additional battery.
