I don't really understand how fast the i7 processors are. The G51Jx I'm looking into has a i7-720qm 1.6GHz to 2.8GHz. I understand that only 1 of the 4 cores are overclock when needed. Does this mean the maximum output speed of the entire processor is 2.8+1.6+1.6+1.6=7.6GHz? If this is so, what about the other 4 virtual cores? Do they give a performance boost. How fast in actual speeds would that probably be?

So, if only one core is overclocked, it will go up to 2.8GHz. But if all cores are overclocked, the overclocking is less? Right?

I've read that overclocking the i7-720qm in G51s to 1.7-2.9GHz instead of 1.6-2.8GHz actually gave poorer performances. Is that true?

They probably know more about it then. Ask one of the G51J users.
