I'm pretty sure you cannot buy something on the Bestbuy.com (the US site) and have it shipped to Canada (ie. US store to Canadian store). Unless you have someone to do that for you in the states, ie. they buy it for you and they ship it to you.

And yea it would be subjected to customs and duties, usually between 5-20% sometimes more depending on how much and what the item is, unless the store actually ship it than you don't pay for that or at least you shouldn't.

Regardless, if you want the BB model as cheap as you can get it, I would make a road trip and pick it up at an American BB store and bring it back cross boarder without the fees and all. Like if you live in Toronto take a roadtrip a BB in Buffalo.

You'd pay $60 brokerage fees (the amount the shipping company charges for transiting the money between you and the goverment) and GST.

I thought duties were only like $10 if you shipped via USPS?

Ship only USPS to Canada, never UPS, they will screw u big time. From now on, till rest of your life don't even look at UPS shipping.
    Here's few examples:
Bought laptop for $1000 US shipped to me through UPS, not only was it a pain to pickup but ended up paying $250 upon delivery to me.
Just received car srut bar $50 +$20 shipping UPS, had to pay $38 upon delivery to me.
My mother bought something on ebay for $50 shipping included, seller made mistake shipped with UPS, she ended up paying $50.50 upon delivery to her.

Always ship USPS, even the few dollar things, one thing is they will leave your package at the closest post office, u will get charged only duty fees(small) or sometimes no duty at all(depends which truck customs nail).
    UPS is the devil :D

So, what was the total cost in Canadian dollars for the $1000 USD laptop when it was all said and done?

Wait.. what about taxes? Didn't you have to pay GST+PST as well? I believe UPS collects the tax on your behalf so the 250 that you paid upon delivery included the taxes+duty+brokerage. Still, that means the brokerage charge was about $100.
