I'm interested in building out the C90S with the following:

    ASUS C90S w/ 512MB Graphics Card
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz FSB1333MHz 4M LGA775
Intel 802.11A B G WEP Wireless Mini Card
    Patriot 2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
    Patriot 1GB DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
    Hitachi 7K200 Series 200GB 2.5" SATA HD 7200 RPM
    Vista Ultimate

My main question is whether or not the 3GHz E6850 will work in the C90S. I haven't seen it listed as one of the processors that would work, but I believe that it's a Conroe CPU and that the C90S is designed to work with an LGA775 CPU. So, does anyone know if the E6850 will work?

If not, can anyone recommend the fastest, yet reasonably priced CPU for the C90S (i.e. second fastest after C2E 2.93)?

    Thanks.

Conroes won't work on the C90S. The best CPU that'll work is the E6700.

Actually...the C2D's with 4mb L2 are Code Named "Conroe", which the e6600, e6700, etc etc are called.

The C90S works with the e6300 to x6800, so far. The x6800 is spotty since it is 2.93ghz stock, and the C90S's capability to dissipate heat @ 2.93ghz is it's limiting factor. I suggest a e6600, or e6700.

Yea, my mistake... what i mean to say is that the new CPUs with 1333FBS won't work on the C90S.

How does the e6600/e6700 compare to the e6420? I was just wondering since you had experience with both.

I'm running a E4500, which performs only a little under the E6420 (better than the E6320) and it's great. The 8600M is the bottleneck and I don't do video encoding a lot so...

    The 3dmark score for the E4500 @2.4 (gaming mode, E4600) is 2K
