Hello! Well I'm going to buy the Asus G1S from Netlink Computers (NCIX.COM) next month and I can't wait haha.

1- I was wondering how much of a boost it will be if we compare to the performances of the desktop I have now.

    My current desktop:

    CPU: Intel Celeron 2.80GHz
    RAM: 768 MB (I had 256 and I added 512 MB)
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 256MB DX 9
    HDD: 80 GB

    Asus G1S:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2 GHz 4MB L2 Cache 800MHz FSB,
Santa Rosa Intel Mobile 965 PM Express Chipset + ICH8M
2 GB RAM 667MHz (up to 4GB supported)
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, 256 MB onboard, 512 MB Turbo Cache DX 10 Capable HDCP support for DVI port
160 GB HDD Seagate Momentus 7200.2, 7200 rpm SATA 300 (upgrade from 160 GB 5400rpm)
15.4” WSXGA+ (1680x1050) ColorShine TFT-LCD Asus Splendid Video Intelligent Technology
8X DVD Super Multi drive with LightScribe
Intel Integrated HD audio (Azalia), Bluetooth v2.0
    Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/b/g/n

I'm sorry I couldnt make the comparison myself because I have no idea how the G1S performs really(Well I know it has great performances from the owners reviews!...)

Also I want to add that the most games I play on my desktop now are The Sims 2 (with all expansions) and Tomb Raider (Legend and Anniversary). Somehow the Tomb Raiders (without NextGen for Legend) play much more better than the sims 2 (The game is slow and I can't even use big houses because its unplayable, sooo slow...)

2- I plan on playing those on the G1S and I was wondering how the Sims 2 would perform on the new machine? I know Sims 2 eat a lot of ram and HDD power (not so much of Graphics Card power it seems...)

    Thanks!!!

i think you'll see a great performance boost. i went from a crappy dell with 512 mbs of ram and an x300 graphics card from ati to the g1s and it's like going from an 8 track player to an iPod.

one thing, though. if you do spend that much money on such a nice system, you should definitely check out some more graphically intensive games that will run and play smoothly on your g1s. i really recommend you pick up half-life 2, cs: source, dod: source, bf2, f.e.a.r., and oblivion, all of which look and play great.

as for the sims 2, i am 100% certain you will be able to play it on your g1s to the most optimum performance possible. the 2 gigs of ram and 8600m gt will crunch through every modern game at the highest of settings, with a few exceptions like anti-aliasing settings and some dynamic shadows/lighting.

I went from a Pentium 3 800mhz 256mb ram 10gb harddrive and a 4mb matrox video card to the G1S, and the difference, was, well, noticeable. The G1s is the fastest 15.4" notebook in the market right now other than the C90, but the C90 isn't exactly usable on the go. Nvidia will not be releasing a Geforce 9 series for at least a year (the highend cards of the 8 series isn't even out yet, and looking at the history of the 7 series, that's what I predict), so until then, it's going to be blazing through games, though maybe not at max settings and res. It is certainly a very capable system.
