Does this notebook have the small LCD screen on the outside cover? I read that the dual core ASUS notebooks would have them, but I wasn't sure if all of them had that feature or not. Thanks!
Also this Nvidia card on the V6J why did they do that? Is it better than a x700?
Lastly, does anyone know if Asus will have a customizable version? Like a V6Ja? They do that with the V6V and V6Va
Thanks!
-
It doesn't, the one with the LCD was a demo for Vista.
The 7400 is a step back, it's around the same area as the V6va, with the x700.
ASUS never had a customizable V6 series, only the dealers themselves can customize it for you, which will VOID your global warranty. -
x700 is less than a x600?
-
X700 is superior to X600. Since the V6J is only 1" thick, it is only possible to fit in the nvidia 7400 as the X1600 will need more clearance for the heatsink
-
Maybe this will help:
V6v was the first model with a Pentium M and an x600 graphics card. People reported heat problems and I heard the screen wasn't that great.
V6va was the "refresh" version of the V6v. It had a better screen, a x700 graphics card and a better heat sink.
V6j is the Core Duo version of the V6 series. The 3D Mark of the 1400 is a little less than that of the x700 and at least in North America the screen is supposed to be not as good as the one of the V6va.
The "Lamborgini" is supposed to be released sometime this year. The first version is based on the V6 model. Most likely it will be more powerful than the V6j.
Neither of these models is officialy customizable, but some retailers will offer the option. This will void your Asus global warranty and you will have to claim any issues through your retailers warranty. -
The V6v was an award winner in style and performance, and one of the thinnest and most powerful laptop out when it was released. The screen was good, but nothing worth mentioning about. There were some heat problems, as an x600 in a 1.1 inch thick laptop would easily create.
As DaCheese mentioned, a Lamborgini style V6j is in the works, with rumours of having an x1600 video card. At a premium -
Thanks guys for joining in and providing your feedback. Perhaps I will wait until this Lambo version of the v6v comes out before I make a purchase. I am pretty sure I want a V6 I just can't really decide on which one. I think I am leaning to the v6va at the moment. I am kind of disappointed, I was hoping that V6J would clearly be the new front runner and make this decision easy.

What will be faster for gaming? The V6va? or the v6j? I know the v6va has the better graphics card, but will the dual core on the v6j make up the difference? Thanks.

I don't know if this is where to ask this question but is there a 15.4 inch widescreen version of the V6j? Will there be an updated version with widescreen and better GPU anytime soon?
-
Nope, though there was speculation of a 15.4" V6 series in the future(6+ months)
-
prob need to make a new thread for this but don't have time and I'm on ppc phone and really want to find answer before I have to reset laptop.
basically after closng the lid my screen is offand can't be brought back by any of the ways in the manual.
HELP! -

Comparing V6va vs V6J vs VX1 (Lambo) vs V1J (Widescreen version of the V6J with many more features)
Since your looking at the graphic cards primarily, I will try to help distinguish this.
V6va has a Pentium-M and the X700, your estimated 3DMark05 is 2400, games will roughly be played at max resolution with settings at medium and some at low or high depeding on what they are.
V6J has a Core Duo, Yonah, with the 7400, your estimated 3DMark05 is 2000ish, games will run at a lower res and medium settings, this is just roughly speaking.
VX1 i will just use the GPU for this case, the 7400VX which is an overclocked 7400, it has not been benchmarked yet, however we can take a guess that it may perform around the range of 2400 marks in 3Dmark05, however if it performs better that's good, if it performs worse than that, i'm sure many will be dissapointed, so would I.
V1J, unfortunately this model has not made it to North America, and it is just a waiting game, lets assume it comes with the X1600 you can expect close to 4000 in 3DMark05 and that very good, most games can be played at max resolution with med settings or just drop the res and high settings.
I hope this clears up some info regarding these laptops performance. -
first off i fixed the problem just by unchecking prompt for pass word in the power settings in control panel in the advanced tab. that was all i had to do , the other default settings are fine. now when i close lid it goes in stanby and when i open any one key takes it out. strange though that it was checked by default to prompt for password. i think because of that and if you never set a password it looks for one that doesnt' exist and was never made so it locks it up.
anyway as far as the statement:
"V1J (Widescreen version of the V6J with many more features)"
i dont know about that. they look different. v1j has some visible hinges like other cheaper asus laptops and i dont like it, i like the v6j looks better.
at this point i'm not even waiting for the v1j, i figure a merom W2P which is coming soon will complement my v6j nicely and will be the machine for games. i just hope w2p has glossy screen -

haha yes, I agree with your comment, the V1J is more geared to the Business user, with features like, the webcam, fingerprint reader, spillproof keyboard, bluetooth, modular bay.
I totaly agree about the waiting period for it's arrival, it has been a long time. -
v6j has bt. else i wouldnt be able to tether with 3g smartphone.
also it seems the v6j is strictly business. i thought the v1j has a better vid card making it better for gaming though i guess with those features you mention its business also, so maybe the best of both.
would have loved to have considered/waited for if there was word of it ever coming here let alone an actual time frame. -
v1j is availabe now i guess. but there was no knowing that back then.
a 15.4" wide screen can be had from any notebook manufac though while the 15.1 std screen of the v6j is more rare.
i would consider the v1j in addition but it just doesnt seem worth paying so much more then what you can get a similiar HP or Sony Vaio for.
also i never received my rebate for my v6j after calling up and verifying that they had it, it was validated and ready to mail out over a month ago.
i have no confidence in Asus. -
my v6j gets a spot in the lcd screen where it looks like a liquid dent so to speak in on spot when i move/adjust the screen. can mostly only see it on a dark background, but i just wonder how it happened, if its normal and if it can be fixed.
i fear it may have happeed when carrying/picking up the laptop. like when you pick it up with one hand instead of two from teh buttom and your thumb puts pressure on the top of the lid where the screen is.
i think picking up and carrying it like that put pressure on the back of the lcd in that spot and caused this liquid dimple to show when i move the screen.
guess i should have known but wish they had posted recommended method of lifting and carrying the notebook. -

I hate to tell you, but there's a reason no one has responded to your posts over the last few months. I'm only going to respond to tell you that you should try another method. Asus probably didn't think they should put directions in their manual of how to hold the notebook because that's sort of personal. There's only one way to turn it on.... and only one way to type on it.... but I tell you what, if you don't know how to hold it or think you're holding it wrong, my guess is that you'd need more than a manual to tell you how to do it. Start a new thread with a subject that's more relevant.. That way if you don't get a response it's just because no one wants to respond to you and not because your post gets lost in a dead thread.
