Justin:
Noticed at the link below:
http://laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=UXZ33&Category_Code=P1UX
that there is a Dual layer DVD burner option available for the unit in question.
Now to me, this notebook looks like it is based on the ASUS M5N (or equivalent). Furthermore, the drive in question looks thin enough that it might be able to fit into a W5A (if the faceplate is changed, as you previously mentioned).
Any idea which drive this may be? Any chance this could be made to fit into an Asus W5A?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,
-M.

You can do the research and panasonic is the only one who makes these super slim drives..... they won't have an 8x dual layer drive out in this form factor until sometime in Q3. Unless you can get a model number, this doesn't do much for me. Right now, with the costs of these super slim drives (to make them, make them in small quantities, and to have a monopoly on them) ..... the 2x dvd-rw drive that is in the V6 which we'll use in the W5 or Z33 if someone requests it...... costs around that...... an 8x dual layer (and if it was dual layer it wouldn't be 2 or 4x... it would be 8) ....... it would cost double that right now.

Someone was saying over on ThinkPads.com that there is a slim dual layer, the UJ-832b. Got any info on that?

No ...... the V6's drive is the UJ-822b.... like I said, the dual layer model isn't supposed to be out for at least another month and it's release price is very hefty.
