Hi, I'm about to make the leap to getting an M5N and wanted to see if some owners can help with a few questions. I'm interested in getting an extended battery. It will likely be the 9-cell battery although I've seen mention of a 6-cell one as well. Does one exist in the North American market?

Anyways, here's a few specific questions regarding the 9-cell (and 6-cell if someone can provide that info):

    - how many hours of real-world use (office apps, surfing, DVDs) are people getting out of the extended battery?

    - Asus lists the M5N's height as 9.25". The battery adds how much to this height with its protrusion (does the 6-cell stick out at all?)? This is because I'm going to spec a laptop sleeve and would like to accomodate that difference.

    - How much more weight does the extended battery add to the laptop above the standard 3-cell?

Thanks for any replies. The forum has been quite useful thus far.

hi cynical, welcome to notebookreview forums

i dont have a m5, instead i have an s5, which is little brother of m5
i got two batteries, 3 cell and 6 cell batteries.
-i have never used both one one after the other but i get more than 2 hours with small one and 4+ with larger
-the battery adds some noticable weight but annoying thing is that with the extended battery the device looses its balance. i mean the device gets heavier to the back. this is annoying with 6 cell and i cant imagine the situation with 9 cell battery, 6 cell battery scitk out a little bit less than 1 inch
-as i mentioned earlier, loosing the balance is more annoying than added weitght

    To complete what you've ask..
The 9 cell battery last about roughtly 5:30 hour to 6 hour if you slighly use as for internet or mp3. I expect more than 6 hour for office work. For Dvd I believe that it can last for 2 movies. (around 4:xx hours)

I have an M5N with 9 cell battery
The 9 cell battery sticks out about... exactly 3.5cm
The weight I would say about... 3 times the 3 cell (It's obvious.. 9/3 is 3)

I ve got some mixed replies about the m5n but some people get 6-7.5 hours out of it on the most conservative battery power4gear setting. Generally 6 is what you should expect. The reason it is not 9 hours is becuase the cpu fan stays on most of the time. But that is the sacrifice with small 12" laptops the cpu fan stays on usually becuase there is not much room to disipate heat.
