Just picked up the U36SD from the microsoft store. We noticed a gap under the keyboard section on both sides of the laptop. The front portion of the side does not have this but rather only the middle.

Please see attached pic. Can anyone confirm if this is normal or if I should bring back an exchange for a new laptop.

That is definitely not normal. I know because I opened mine up to change my hard drive. You can either return and exchange, or open it up and fix it (it should not void warranty). There are 2-3 clips on that side that is not in their correct place. I believe this is easily fixable at home, if you don't want to bring it back to Microsoft.

That definitely does not look right, definitely exchange it. The quality assurance on these SDs is questionable, I just returned one that came with a uneven ram slot (one of the plastic latches that held the cover to the bottom of the chassis broke).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I went back and swapped out the device. They had to open a total of 4 notebooks in order to find one that didn't have the problem. I thought Asus was better than this...

On a side note - props to the Microsoft Store for being so understanding and helpful on getting me the right product. I was very suprised by the level of customer service at this location. I got the laptop for $999 - 25% discount - $150 for old laptop trade in = $600 before tax.
