This is my first post on this forum so hi everyone :)

I bought an Asus N53S-A1 2 days ago and I have some questions regarding the video card (Nvidia GEFORCE GT540M). I just install the online game(it is not a high end 3D game) I usually play on my desktop and test the performance, and the result is kind of disappointing. I compare on my desktop(using GEFORCE 9800GT) and my new laptop at the same time, and my old desktop perform better than the new laptop @@. I just want to make sure is there any setting I need to do to get the full power of the video card? And also, I can see 2 video card under "Device Manager", one is the GT540M and the other one is "Intel HD Graphics Family". Is that normal? or I am using the Intel HD graphic card that causing the problem?

    Thanks in Advance!!

Maybe there is an on board (integrated) video card that is still enabled in the BIOS?

hi Polyway, the Desktop 9800GT is actually a more powerful gpu then the 540m is. For the desktop to be doing better then the notebook is about right. Unless you're seeing a huge difference then it could be that the notebook is not switching over properly from its integrated card. Device manager is right in showing two gpu's, your computer has Optimus which is designed to switch from the Intel card to the Nvidia card depending on use. I have heard of games not triggering this correctly. Check your game and see if this is a common problem

Thank you so much for the advise!

is it true this issue can be solved if I can disable the integrated video card and use 540m only?

If so, where do I find the above setting?

    Thanks again !

It should switch automatically when you run graphically intensive program. If not, you can manually adjust whether nvidia GPU will be used in a particular program by going into Nvidia's control panel.
