    hi
I frequently use MS word and embed in it lots of pictures (wmf, emf, tif). I noticed when scrolling a document that updating of the pictures is very slow. I am using HP dv6500 (2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 3Gb RAM, 80 MB RAM DISK, 22 GB free HD space, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS).

I'm now considering purchasing ASUS M70 or Sager NP5793. From the discussion in this forum, it appears that many consider the ATI card in M70 inferior. Maybe this is totally irrelevant to my problem, but would I get better performance with NP5793?

    Thanks

From your config it should run well.

Images embedded in MS word don't require GPU. They are more CPU intensive. If you have numerous images that are several MBs in size, no doubt, loading these images will be slow. Basically, the more images you have, the more time the CPU will take to swap information in and out of memory to the HDD cache.
If you are already seeing lag with 3gb of ram, I'd suggest going for 4gb (64bit OS needed), a 2.5ghz C2D CPU and/or 200+gb HDD.
